first bear of the spring!

Post by houndnem »

went up for the first time this year to look for bears. either couldn't find a track or kept running in to other hound guys everywhere I went. when I was just about to head home some turkey hunters pulled me over and said they found a bear track on a log rd. I drove up there and my box exploded!!! about an hour later I had this sweet colored bear in a pinion tree!!! I hope you all are as wound for this season as I am. good luck to ya!

Can't wait went to Utah last year first time we chased one around all day. Never treed. My buddies are all up there now. This year will be the first time I will have a ok pack they should all make the tree this year, walk the 2 pups in on 5 bears last year. Getting my rig dog back from Washington should be under close to 80 bear when I get him back. CAN'T wait . If its as good as it was last year we had 3 bears in the tree by 8:00 am the second day. Nice pictures, Good luck

Nice pics that's a cool color phase! Whats kind of dog is the one standing in the tree I'm assuming a mix of some kind, cool looking dog and looks like it's getting the job done.

Ha ha that's awesome, I love seeing dogs excel at things they weren't bred for! I could see the healer in him making him a gritty hair pulling SOB and the boarder collie side keeping him focused and the smarts to keep him from getting hurt, probably a well rounded dog. Plus he is probably better than a hound cause he probably listens! well I won't tell him he isn't a hound if you dont  . Well cool looking bear and good looking dogs.

That's awesome does he use his nose at all or does he just stick with the hounds till they get the jump, then turn on his hunting ability?

sometimes he goes from the start to finish trailing with the hounds and other days you have to get real close to get him to thread in. I have caught him using his nose a time or two :)
