Earlier Astro handhelds need to be updated before they can be used to track the T5.






Does this mean updated 220's will be able to track the T5?

I'd guess no since they can't even track dc50s.

Do you have to select what mode you want on the collar first. Either alpha or astro. Or can say a 320 track it right along side an alpha.

Should say earlier Astro 320 or Alpha 100 handhelds,
Can't track with a 220.

You can pair it with either the 320 or the Alpha, but it will not track on both at the same time.

right now I have a quick track unit and am thinking about switching to garmin , wondering what is the best don't need a hot collar I have them , and figure I need about 10 collars , I see so much on this system and hear so much about problems , and good things I am kinda puzzled about what will be the best, I don't want something that will be discontinued in a year or so !

Can you please expound on the effectiveness of how GLONASS helps with keeping communication between the collars and the handheld (for example an Alpha 100)?

The way I see it, the GLONASS will help the collar keep GPS signal, but it won't increase communication between the collar and the handheld. Most of the time when the question mark pops up, it is not with the collar losing GPS, our handhelds and collars very rarely ever lose GPS signal. Usually it's the collar and the handheld losing communication which is why when you plug in your big antenna, you immediately get communication again and can once again track your dogs. It would seem to me that GLONASS will not help tracking distance or cut down on the amount of time your dogs are question marks, since GPS signal is usually not the culprit currently.

I could be completely wrong, I don't know anything about how that all works, so any help you can provide would be great.

You are absolutely correct. GLONASS enabled just means that the GPS device can use more GPS satelites in the sky to fix on the location. It has nothing to do with the Communication between collar and handheld.

I agree, the TT10's rarely loose GPS signal in my experience, if they do they pick it right back up. So I don't think GLONASS is a reason to upgrade, But if they are going to do something new they might as well make sure all the new technology is included.
