Colorado Fur Harvester

Postby Sage55 » Wed Nov 26, 2014 9:33 pm

Hey everyone I'm a 26 yr old from southern Colorado (SLV). I have spent my whole life in the outdoors hunting, camping and what have you, my grandpa, dad, and uncles have all outfitted and guided for big game here in the state ad well as I have been working for a outfitter as an elk guide for several years now. The past four years I have been harvesting fur through the winter and last January I purchased a black and tan female pup I worked with her all winter and summer and am finally getting ready to turn her loose on a bobcat trail. I'm always looking for advice and someone to throw a little knowledge my way and I'd anyone is around this part of the country and wants to do some predator hunting I am always looking for someone to go with.

Welcome Sage, have fun with that hound, and if you ever have any questions, be sure and ask them, I think people will be happy to try and share what they know about it. There is nothing like a fur shed lined with well handled fur. I wish you a good and bountiful harvest this season. You have to use cage traps for yor trapping right? Boy that would sure take some learning for me to do that. How do you trap coyotes? I can't imagine anything but a pup going in a cage.

Thanks david ya cage traps only on public lands witch works good for bobcats but you would be hard pressed to get a coyote in one but it is legal to set legholds and snares on private property so I do allot of coyote control for local ranchers that way and good ol coyote calling on public land I will try and post a few pics of past harvests and hopefully have some fur in the shed here soon, I take great pride in my fur and how I handle it. Looking forward to all great advice the veteran houndsman have to offer
