Coon in the snow/cold

Postby Redbarntrailhounds » Tue Nov 18, 2014 3:54 pm

I am planning on chasing coon this weekend if the weather warms up a bit, maybe 20. We have about 13" of snow in the woods. Has anyone ran coon in that much snow or in temps in the teens? I have a few farm sites to start on that show colder weather promise.

Redbarn, we track and trail coons around barn sites and grain bags as soon as it warms up. To me it seems that as long as it warms up (even if from -40 to -10) coons will come out and look for food but going the other way (40 down to 0) they will stay denned up and you will just get a 'nice' walk with your dogs through some old farm yards.

It warmed from 0-10 at night for the last couple weeks to almost 30. The little guy must have worked pretty hard to get to the field. He barely made it to the woods to tree up.
