Garmin/Tri-Tronics

Postby wyohunter12 » Wed Dec 10, 2014 2:21 pm

2 years ago, I scraped up enough money to buy an Astro 220 and 2 collars, and a G3 EXP Trashbreaker for 2 dogs. I decided to get a third collar for both systems and come to find out that Garmin/Tri-Tronics discontinued both!

Sure, you can find used ones on ebay as well as a few new ones, but they want an arm and a leg for them compared to what I was expecting to purchase the additional collars for.

This just makes you want to take a few people from Garmin out back and have a little discussion! Its called backwards compatible!

Anyone else ran into this situation?

Its called corporate money making. They aren't out to keep the same old system. They want to innovate it every couple years and make money doing it. I saw writing on the wall two years ago and upgraded to a alpha system. It was well worth it.

That's a thought. at least with the 320 transceiver the new T5 collar will work, but as you notice, the DC50 is not around anymore. You are stuck with buying the T5 for replacements at $250.

I did find used DC40's and Tri-Tronics G3 EXP colalrs at http://www.outdoordogsupply.com/used-dc40-collars/

hope this helps out anyone else in this situation. This gets me a used collar for both systems for $250, which is easier to swallow over the Astro+t5 combo for 3 dogs at $1100 or the Alpha +TT15 which incorporates the shock collar into the GPS at $1400 through Gun Dog Supply.
