Re: What happened to the walker dogs???
Might be interested in breeding to him in the future. I have an eight month old gyp that I also brought from Cali. with a similar background. She has a sorry mouth but sure is showing a lot of natural ability. By fall I will know if this is something I want to pursue. She is the results of 30 years of breeding by a sure enough hunter.

Re: What happened to the walker dogs???
Texas hunter sounds like he is a nice young prospect but I would sure have to see him out more than twice before I would want pups on the ground. This is the problem with what the post is about to many guys making crosses that that should not be made. Jmo Andy

bones if you read enough posts on here you will find guys that have ran bobcat with the same strain of dogs for many years. most don't run puppy mills and only have a litter when they need some young dogs. also there is a whole lot of cat hunters that don't go online. if you contact enough of these guys I am sure you can find a pup from a line of cat dogs and a lot of the guys on here know many good or even great cat hunters that don't get on line. you stand a far better chance of getting good stock this way than going with a commercial breeder. jmo
no mater if you think you can or you think you cant,, you are probably rite.
Re: What happened to the walker dogs???
I found this walker female this past summer in sw Oregon, and was never a walker fan but she managed to tree a jumped bobcat and grey squirrels. Does anyone what type of breeding she may be? Has a glimped foot so I cant hunt her as hard as I would like too.
Re: What happened to the walker dogs???
I have yet to hear of anyone breeding a strong line of walker hounds, yes there are a select few nice hounds out there, but who is breeding a high number of good honest cold trailing smart tree dogs?????

Re: What happened to the walker dogs???
Dogs that please one hunter may not please another. Every pup in 99% of litters born is not going to make a good cat dog. Making cat dogs with the best bred pups takes hunting time & a trainer with enough knowledge to give that young hound proper exposure & guidance. If the first pups you bought make good cat dogs, consider yourself lucky. More than likely someone bought a pup from that litter that did not work as well as your pups. I suggest you go hunt with some cat hunters & see what dogs please you, then with a little luck, hard work & proper exposure you may or may not find what you a searching for. There is a couple cat hunters on this forum that invites hunters to watch there dogs work, & they do sell pups. Just my opinion & good luck to you. Al

If one does some homework and makes some calls it would not take one long to find what he or she is looking for but they just dont fall out of the sky. You are in an area of fine dogs go visit a few guys and go for a hunt. Andy

Re: What happened to the walker dogs???
Finding dogs like what your talking about is like going to a bar and finding the girl with the hottest body, prettiest face long flowing hair. Now just because you found her it doesn't mean your taking her home. Same with that kind of dogs your talking about they live in VERY tight circles and more then likely just because you find them it don't mean your going home with one...

Bones are you east or west by chance ?
Re: What happened to the walker dogs???
Pogosa, I've seen walkers that looked like that in every town in s. Oregon. From Ashland to grants pass, cave junction to Klamath falls. Nice looking dog by the way. Lots of walker men in that neck of the woods (and everywhere else) and a saddle back redhead is a pretty common color.
Re: What happened to the walker dogs???
Thanks Cobalt, she was just different looking than the walkers in OK and CO that I've run across.

Re: What happened to the walker dogs???
pagosa there are walker dogs all over the place different color phases body styles and weights , I like smaller types because of the countr I hunt, back east they like bigger dogs they don't hold up here . but as has been said on here too many times , if you find what you think , you might want , spend a little time and money ; go hunt with the dogs ; if anyone tells you different be cautious , jim
