[url][/url]Well I got the flir today . Went out and treed a cat tonight and it works awesome. Raining now and supposed to all weekend so windy and I might be in trouble.

I had a 16 year old ask me what was needed to hunt a hound a week or too ago. And how to do it?

My response was. A strong leash you can wear like a sash. And a good pair of work boots. Then I said just chase that dog everywhere! If you have what it takes, that dog just mite make a hound hunter out of you. Then I threw a grin and walked away. John.

I have had one for about 1.5 years. Do not know how you can photo what you are seeing through the lens. But, the photos provided on line and article above is what you see when scanning a tree or trees.

I have seen roosting crows, turkeys, etc. and they are easy to detect as to what they are.

In groves of planted & tall pines, some of the cats tree and my hounds cannot seem to locate exact tree that the cat is located? They will not leave area, cast about and keep going back to same tree area. With the Flir, I have found the cat 4-5 trees(maybe 30-40 yards) from where hounds think he was located.

This last 8 days of hunting, treed five different cats, and hounds located all of them. They were not treeing the tree but were looking at the cat in all tall pines. I saw 4 of the 5 cats, with the other tree being covered in vines and so thick around tree that we could not really get to look it over well?

The Flir is pricey & if I were hide hunting in area where the hides were worth something it would likely pay for itself?

I would sell mine for $1800 (I paid around $2200 for it)

They will do that. Any thing that gives off body heat will stand out real clear. You can set the color three diff. ways---I use the red on white background. Picture you seeing when your scanning looks like a negative on film--with trees and other showing up---when you cross bird or animal the image comes across as red and is in shape of their body.

You may see only a part of body due to limb or trunk of tree, but change position and you will see entire body of what ever is putting off heat.

The only draw back with it is with eye glasses, I have to remove my glasses to see clearly!

For those that do not have to wear glasses, it would really work great. I think?

And for the competition group---would not be without one.

Al, knock the cob webs out of that wallet of yours and spend that sh$t!!!! You cant take it with ya i dont think?????? Buy ya a Flir and dog that runs em in a big circle and trees next to the road and have some fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mark, believe it or not I used to hunt some with a hunter who told me about a dog he owned that waited until she got the cat near a road to turn up the speed & tree cats close to a road. I thought he was dreaming, still do. However, after I started hunting with him I swear, those dogs treed at least 90% of the time close to a road. He was such a believer in his theory, he kept a bag of weenies to reward them when they treed near a road. He owned three very nice dogs & caught his share of cats. Al
