Roy Rogers Interview from 1991

Postby mike martell » Thu Mar 05, 2015 3:09 pm

I found this old copy of Full Cry Magazine from 1991, an Interview with Roy Rogers. Now almost two and one half decades later! Safe to say Roy was a huge bluetick fan. I scanned the magazine and hope the article can be read ok. I miss the old days of Full Cry when we all looked forward to receiving our monthly copy and made sure it was handy to be read cover to cover.

I agree Mike I miss those old issues myself.

Roy had a ton of hounds at one time and He and Stuart Hamblin well known Cowboy singer song writer and Preacher were great hunting buddies of Carl Switzer ( better know as Alfalfa from the famous Little Rascals gang.). Roy and Dale were Carl's childrens God parents and they were very close. There was a lot of hound history written in California in those days and before and also a lot of mystery and intrigue that surrounded the famous hound men of that area. The mysterious circumstances surrounding Alfalfa's death and the never solved mystery of the death of Al Lynn one of the most notable big game Treeing Walker developers of all time. Grey Fox and Sow Flat Slim know a lot more about this personally that I do but I was fortunate enought to get to know , hunt with and listen to the stories of some of the guys that were making tracks in those woods in the same era. Guys like Pete Gill, Steve Matthes, and Gus Landergon.

Hard to believe but the King of the Cowboys Roy was more at home on the trail with his hounds than he was in the saddle on Trigger chasing bad guys around the movie sets. LOL!

Thanks Mike for weighing in on this thread.
I believe there is a tremendous amount of history, not to mention historians on this board and keeping this stuff alive and going too me is very important.

I would love to see an Annual National Houndsmens Convention started smack in the middle of the Country for all of us to meet in person like our Bobcat Hunters gathering out West.

Just a random thought!

Take Care!

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

Something tells me it's going to be a long 189 days until our bobcat season reopens?
