Have fun kid. Also make sure to hunt around water if you got a real hard tree dog. Some dogs can get awful hot while others seem to never get hot. Don't ask me why cuz I cant figure that one out yet.

Goes for "all" hunters as well. The better condition your in the more "Luck" you'll have.Dan Edwards wrote:That's exactly what I'm talkin bout. I didn't wanna say it cuz folks wouldn't hardly believe it but when they get in that kinda shape they just don't miss.Beardawgs wrote:Dan, I know what you mean by hard running shape. Its that same with bear in Idaho, once the dogs get to that point they catch every bear I put them on.

Something to keep in mine is you can hunt your dogs to hard. For 90% of the hunters that is probably not the case but I know I have reached that point with my dogs.

I haven't really noticed that til they get about maybe 6 years old. Just an arbitrary age but that seems to be the age at which it happens. With my greyhounds I am noticing it at about 5 years old. I do know what you mean though I've just not seen it with 3 and 4 year old dogs.dhostetler wrote:Something to keep in mine is you can hunt your dogs to hard. I try to hunt 9 to 10 days a month, for me as much as the dogs.

Re: How much hunting?
I agree 3 to 4 year old dogs have a lot better bounce back. I currently run 6 dogs, during cat season I usually split my pack so that doesn't happen. I have more issues in bear hunting with that on tough bear races where I usually run all 6 on a bear. Eventually I will have good enough bear dogs to split my pack. maybe....Dan Edwards wrote:I haven't really noticed that til they get about maybe 6 years old.
