I need some experienced help!!!!

Post by eskinner45 »

New question for all you experienced guys I gotta 8 month old pup from a guy and she's a running bred cross dog. I have been trying the walking stick method but I wanted to get her to understand that the smell of the trailing scent is associated with live game because she hasn't really been barking to trail it or anything. So I walked her along the trail I put out, just a short one, and when I got there I had a house cat in a cage the I let down out of the tree and she didn't get excited or anything over it she just kind of sat there and looked at it so I got my coon dog and had her bark and carry on at it and still I got nothing outta the pup. What do I do will she become more interested or is it going to be a lost cause?

Most dogs intelligent enough to make cat dogs figure out the trainer scents pretty quick. I've never had much luck with dogs more interested in treeing then catching game. Once a dog has a basic understanding of what we are doing wondering around the desert and what to do in certain circumstances I take them out hunting with older dogs. They either have the drive and interest to start helping out and learning or they don't.

Yeah well that's my biggest problem I don't have a dog that wants to run anything but a coon.
