Iowa
I just got home from working for Midwest Pipeline and Northern Natural gas in Menlo Iowa and stayed in Adair. I noticed while I was working down there that there were coon tracks in EVERY mud puddle I saw the whole time I was down there. Is there an abundance of coon around that area? I wish I had my dog with.

I learned to hunt and trap in Iowa as a kid. I have lived and hunted a few different places and have never seen the abundance of fur bearing mammals any where like I did in Iowa. That good soil and favorable weather starts the food chain out, and there is plenty of food for everybody. It is truely amazing, but you shure would never guess it by driving through the state on the freeway.
My dream as a kid was to trap the wilderness. The wilderness has only a tiny fraction of the fur bearing animals as Iowa or any other fertile farmland has.
The other amazing part of it is, the entire state is heavily hunted and trapped every single year. But if you have out of state plates, you better make sure you got a tire pump and a spare.
I saw an article in the Trapper about a man who catches 1,000 racoons in Iowa every year, year after year. I dont know where else a person could do this.
