Nose, You can't run a cat if you can't start it.

If you're talking about doing it with one dog everything is extremely important . You need nose power(cold nose),the ability to take a track, hot or cold and move out on it(tracking ability).Once the game is jumped they must push it hard enough to make it tree or bay(speed).A dog must be able to find the cat no matter how high it jumps on the tree(locating ability).Last but certainly not least
they must tree and stay ,barking enough that you can get to them (a tree dog ).
These are the basics as i could give a more detailed description but hopefully you get the idea.
A dog must possess all these traits and then some to be called a cat dog in my book.

My cat and fox dog is a registered bluetick. He strikes from the rig or road, has a cold nose, and can move out on a track. He has good speed and has caught a few on the ground .Trees good. He's not the best i've owned but is a pretty decent hound that can tree his own game.

Oneguy828, I have no idea. I have hunted West Coast with them and the East Coast. Nothing south or in between. They do just fine going from west to east.

So how are they west coast bred? You think you could take dogs from other places and make them work here?
