Everyone can calm down now. Got word late last nite that Boomer evidently came out of his funk and decided to hunt in Colorado. Dont know the details for sure but sounded like Boomer started the track and ran it with other dogs and treed the cat. Hopefully we can get the whole story and some updates as time goes by with the dog and new owner.

Andy first of all the guy didn't buy that dog for a bobcat doget and sure as hell didn't buy the dog because his buddies couldn't catch a bobcat like you said. He wanted a lion dog a dog that you said "could run a lion blindfolded and backwards". When turned loose on a three hour old lion track I guess it did run up in the woods and looked like it was blindfolded and I guess it did run backwards to the truck. I know I know Andy your dog's are the greatest and they eat pennies and shit hundred dollar bills. Maybe the guy should have blindfolded the dog and turned it loose backwards.

I think it would be tough to have a bobcat competition in Montana. Weather varies to much and we have a lack of bobcats. I already thought it would be fun to have a competition for the biggest one harvested but with such a big ordeal of selling dogs with completely different stories I don't see how you could trust anyones weights.

Why in the world would someone spend $4000 on a dog and not watch it hunt? That is absolutely crazy. That being said I bought a 2,500 dog watched him hunt twice before I bought him was very impressed with the dog brought him home and accumulated him for 1 month before hunting him and he was an absolute total cull for me it took him nine months before he started hunting for me. The only reason I kept him so long was i spent all the money I had and I knew what the dog had in him. Anyway carry on.

Well here it is I've had Boomer for 40 days. Had him on 11 bobcats and 2 lions and he showed me very little. So I get a little upset. Thinking that I just got ripped off. so that's why I posted what I posted about Andy. That was the wrong thing to do. And Andy I wish I would've handled it a little different. As of yesterday the dog flipped a switch. He was the 4000+ dog that I bought. I don't know why the dog took so long to warm up but is everything that Mark Armstrong said he was. So I apologize in front of all you Houndsman for getting a little bit too Excited Andy.

Buddy can you sticky this in the Classified Section and rename it, Things to Consider When Buying a Dog?

I'm glad this ended well. I believe there are some lessons to be learned here.

X2 Spot on.

There is a reason that most guys who have been around awhile favor a "buy in the woods" deal. It protects the buyer and seller as best you can, still it's best to keep a sharp eye on the situation and know it's always a gamble. Guys who know good dogs don't sell them cheap. And shady characters are ready to suck guys in and part them from their money.

It can also cut the other way. Sold a solid dog way back to a guy on trial. Spent the first couple weeks knocking the rust off him and back in shape. Dog was average nose, average speed but getting older and wasn't going to be getting faster, but was a great tree dog. Guy called me and said the dog wouldn't tree. Ok bring him back I guess. Took him out and put him out with his old pack mates. Ran like a champ but at the tree was staying way back. Knew the deal right away. Leashed him up and led him up to the tree, he was checking out each dog just waiting to get drilled. After seeing he'd be ok went right back to treeing like a champ. It was near end of season, so kept him around until the next season and figured I'd try again. We'll he got hit by a car 3rd time out. I lost a year on the dog trialing him and what he was worth. Figured selling dogs were mostly for other guys from then on.
