Southeast cat hunters

Take 1-10 from jacksonville to Louisiana / tex line. All area south of 1-10 and all areas 50 miles north of 1-10. when was the last time your dogs have run down and caught a cat that you know for certain, not just thought they might have. If you don't mind tell what area.

There's one cat hunter out of Fargo GA. That gets after them pretty regular.

Are your cat numbers in decline? This usually happens in waves from one area to the next. But coyotes seem the most immune to this any more with people supporting them willingly or otherwise.

Cat nbers seem to be the same, just can't catch them. Cats are not in decline but catches are.

Do something about it. IDK Figure out why there not catching and add a dog thats doing what yours ain't. Or if a dog is taking away from the pack get it out of there... Or just get better dogs

I doubt dog power is the problem sometimes they just win. Pay close attention to conditions and try to figure out what's hindering your dogs. Some areas are just plain easier to catch cats in

I know of someone in South Texas that caught two and had another slip through a high fence just in time. I believe this was Thursday or Friday. All three were struck from the rig though.

macedoniamuleman, How many do you run per catch? Pegleg I agree. But if he's having a hard time catching that means he's running them and if there up and running he should be catching. Not saying he has bad dogs or there is a problem but if your catching a low percent or not catching then there's way's to fix it. Is it a cat or two that's putting a whooping on the dogs or is it every cat. And if it's every cat are you sure your running Cat 100% of the time?

I can't say for sure if he's catching them or not; but post some grinding races to the point you know he is in a pickle!!! Makes your hair stand up on your neck just listening to it. I do know he lost one over the weekend before he could get in there to them..

How many dogs are you hunting ?I sold out 10 yrs ago and just getting back. I have a bunch a puppies and I cant catch a cold, BUT I had dogs that would work a grey fox to death and the occasional cat. A bobcat is not that hard to catch if you have running walkers that will A) not bark behind B) not over run the track and C) have decent speed and are run to catch type dogs. A grey fox is a heck of a lot harder IMO. If you are jumping cats and cant put your hands on him you either aren't running close enough to him and are playing HIS game or you got a front end hound(s) over running the track keeping your dogs from doubling back fast enough to stay in his rear end or dogs aint pulling up to the ones calling the shots. Im Not picking on you because im there now, heck no I im not, I don't have a dog that will strike yet, so I'm way behind you. But I learned from some of the best around and know what it takes to catch something, and I wouldn't be too long finding out why. Is it possible you are running a fair share up and not many experienced dogs will look up?

Mule man, looks like them s.e. cat hunters are a tight lip bunch, they ain't going to tell you nothing! You know how folks are down here, a fisherman's not going to tell ya he's catching fish and a turkey hunter's not going to tell ya he's killing turkeys. Cat hunters are more secretive then both of those.
Heck, I know a couple that won't even admit that they are cat hunters.
I haven't caught one since I started back, run a lot more fox than cat. Did think I had a couple cats I was going to catch but they went up, or down a gopher hole, I think, maybe, maybe not. I didn't go out there looking for it. Are you running walker foxhounds and are your races ending suddenly and 5 minutes later all the dogs are standing at the truck or are they staying out there hunting it for a hour after it's over. My experience has been, you can go out there and find a cat in a tree most of the time if it ends like you turned a switch off and the dogs are at the truck in 5 minutes.( They know where the cat is at and they know the game is over.) If they stay out there hunting it, it just got away. I do that a LOT!
