Ruger 10/22

I'm thinking about getting a Ruger 10/22. I've never owned a semi-auto of any make or caliber, only ever had bolt-action repeaters. If you've owned a 10/22, what's your opinion good, bad, or indifferent? Would you buy another one? Why (not)?

Just trying to be an "educated consumer."

For the money it will be pretty hard to beat a 10/22 they are a reliable semi-automatic 22. If you want to upgrade it there are tons of aftermarket parts available for it.

You cant go wrong with a 10/22, it's a great little gun!

i think 10 22 is a great gun -first one i ever saw - i went hunting with a guy that had one --bout as rusty as an old pipe u might find buried in the ground-- was laying in back of his truck -- i thought maybe it was something he had found in the woods

asked him if it worked --- lol , sure did

so i bought one and bout 20 years later mine looked about the same-- always worked- i used it coonhunting for 10 -15 years i guess - -- they are realy a tuff gun
have seen several that had been tottaly mistreated for years and still worked -- i remember one time mine was so dirty it started to misfire -- my buddy took stock off and put it in parts washer and blew it off with aircompressor and i swear it was a pound lighter lol worked like new - best to clean them once every ten or twenty years lol

I got a very rusty one from a old man when I was a kid. He said it didn't shot worth a damn. I tried it and it was all over a 10in circle @ 50yards.

I cleaned it up and my dad helped me put in a Volquersten "drop in" trigger and found it needed a shim under the barrel added a 4x scope and now it shoots 1\2in groups at 50yards.

The shim fit right between the barrel and the stock were the barrel ring goes around to apply pressure(that made the difference)

That has been several hundred squierrels, coons, birds, 10s of thousands of rounds and 15 years ago now and I just wipe it off with a oil cloth when I am done and after a few hundred rounds I drop the bolt out and hose it with Break Free and blow it out with the Air compressor and put it back together good as new.

I am gonna give it to my boy someday. :wink:

first gun i ever got at 13 and 26 yrs later wouldn't sell it for nothing. can clip a push pin at 25yrds

10/22 is the only way to go for small game huntin light cheap rounds and are tough as nails.

Have two of them they are the ones we use almost all of the time.They shoot great.

A little update....

I traded for a Ruger 10/22 with black synthetic stock and stainless steel barrel today. Can't pick it up 'til tomorrow--Illinois has a 24-hour wait period--but will soon find out how I like it.

They are the best small game gun I can find. I've got one with a lazer on it and it works great for shooting coons out.

The 10 22 is a terrific gun. I wouldn't replace it with any other. Accurate and dependable.
