It's up to you with what you think will be easier with that membrane. You might be going too deep if you are pulling hair through the skin though, in which case you might want to leave it on until you have tanned the hide and then just try to break it into the leather. I wouldn't be surprised to see a fair bit of hair coming off of the hide now, but there will probably be enough left once you are done for it to still look OK, I don't think the freeze would have hurt it. I had a deer that I froze half a dozen times between being able to flesh it and it was fine.Bear hounder wrote:I'm ready for some more info and one question about the thin membrane can I just take the thin membrane of know while I'm fleashing and it seems like we are going to do the most of it into leather as alot of the hair is coming out any way as I'm fleashing on a beam and when I push on the scraper it pulls the hair out the hide was on the moose over night and it went below freezing that night we skinned it then put it in back of truck over night in garbage bag I don't think it's slipping but pulling out .I'm using a snare to hold the hide in place I'll send pics the meat and fat comes off pretty easy but that membrane shure takes some elbow grease to take off should I keep taking the membrane off or would it be easier after as far as the membrane goes

This is the picture I am talking about. How things look on the left is what you are shooting for.
All of that pink 'marbeling' that you see on the skin in this picture is what is going to harden up and need to be peeled off once you tan the hide. I know it is pretty tough to get off right now, but it does come off fairly easy once it is dry. It will rip off in sheets, you just have to be careful as it is pulling off because it can rip funny and go all the way through the hide.

If you do many hides each year, you'll eventually want a flashing machine. I like the Dakota IV, but there are others. Do a search on YouTube to see how they work.Bear hounder wrote:What there is a fleshing machine you say full cry hounds. Where would a person get one of these for doing hides?
