Folks. David suggested this hunt, so here you go! Come on guys and gals, lets see who can weigh in the biggest bobcat across the land in the first annual
Fern Ridge Tree Hound Club- International Bobcat Contest

FRTHC is sponsoring our first ever International biggest bobcat hunt for the months of December-January-February. Open to all contestants regardless of where you reside. Example: If B.C. Canada -Minnesota or Montana etc. has an open bobcat season and you are legally licensed and you want to participate? You can. If you are entered in Oregon and want to compete Internationally? You can!

Entry fee is $20.00 Per month. We will require a *Certified* Scale weight slip with a *photo* of your harvested bobcat for pay outs! No trapped or snared bobcats allowed.The entry fee is expected to be post marked for each month on the last day prior to each months hunt. Example, December's hunt, you would need to have your entry postmarked on November 30th. and so on. FRTHC will have a 60/40 payout with the winner receiving 60% and the Club keeping 40%. In the event of a tie, the payout will be split 50/50

Annual Membership is just $10.00 per family so why not join our club while you're at it!

We can post pictures below as they start rolling in. Please wait until December 1st to harvest a bobcat and post pictures for those States Open year around. If we have enough interest? We will entertain having a second and third place pay out!

Where or how does a guy find a certified scale? Googling I find only mention of DOT truck scales.

Most meat processing plants have them. Montana should have one in every town. I always stop in Drummond Mt.and buy meat at the packing plant when I'm lion hunting close by. I use one here locally, it has a certified stamp, I just place the bobcat whole on the scale and take a picture of the scale-bobcat and stamp together and submit. So long as all three are in one picture, it's a certified weight and a print out isn't necessary.

This was David's concept and I think it will be a lot of fun and make for competition between State's, we are all gearing up to hit it hard real soon. Hope you participate!

Out of interest how many countries have bobcat? I know Canada USA and mexico. But even southern Mexico they seem to get thin and spotty populations

Wow this is a really good idea sounds like a lot of fun and it helps the Houndsman . I know some of them Yankee cats can get pretty big so I expect those boys to enter.So count this Colorado boy in!! I'm going to start looking for the cats that eat the mule deer instead of those petite rabbits, The chubby ones ha ha look for my entry in the mail thanks !!! Timothy Morgan

On your state competition how big are the ones that win?

Our kill season lasts only 3 weeks with a limit of 4 per person. During good conditions I hunt for several days at a time with little sleep I keep a scale in the truck and weigh and skin them immediately. My biggest one last year was 29.5 lb. my biggest one I ever shot was 34 lb. So my question is if I get a 30 pounder is it worth leaving it whole for several days before I get it to a certified scale then skin the thing when its stiff as a board. I live in a fairly remote area so butcher shops and certified scales that print a receipt may be kinda hard to find, I will check around but I will definetily send the money to join, I think its a great idea.

Seems pretty legit Justahunter, Lol! Why would you hunt lions with a perfectly good bobcat hound?

I won first two years ago with a tom that weighed 31.8 pounds, this weight held for three months. Mark caught a bigger tom but didn't enter if memory serves me? One other regular board contributor had the winning bobcat staked out and never cut it's tracks that winter.

Last season we had a tremendous snow pack in the high country limiting access. I and another club member tied with a 22 pound bobcat, we donated our winnings back to the club because we didn't feel like we won anything..

Some contests rule out frozen bobcats thinking some people will game the system by freezing a late season tom bobcat and entering it the following year. My position? If a person is going to place sinkers in the belly or carry over a bobcat just to win top prize? Not sure how you prevent this from happening? I always look at the other side of competition on the honor system!

You can tell when you see these tailgate pictures with no scale slip calling them 40 or 50 pounds.

I think we should post frequent updates with scale slips and pictures! This way a guy could pass on a substandard bobcat knowing he doesn't have a chance at winning first place, here is another thought? We get enough interest? Why not add a second and third place category and get some sponsors to step up and donate a couple of Garmin collars or?

How would you guys even know if your bobcat had been eating sinkers, to include it on the weight slip?? Do we have to open each bobcat and report what it has been eating?

How about if you just state the cat was caught near a steelhead stream or something, and it might have been eating sinkers, so I might have the steelhead stream advantage? the honor system.

I know; Since there are trout and steelhead and salmon streams all throughout the northwest, and you guys are concerned about this, maybe you guys in the northwest all could automatically deduct the ten pounds of sinkers from your entry weight, just in case.
