HELP

Post by CODY FANKHAUSER »

I have a 18 month redtick that I hunted on bear last year. He made most of the trees but, never barked on track or tree. No big deal he was young but, he has a HUGE VOICE!!!!!! In the kennel before feeding he would blow your ear's off!!!!!! Now, about a month ago he started to lose his voice now he's (really hoarse).
I got after him 6 or 7 weeks ago, he wouldn't shut up one night and after several warnings at 1 a.m. I went outside for the forth time. This time instead of just yelling I shocked him with a cattle prod  this was before I got my Tri tronic set from Buddy W. I don't think that is what caused it but I don't know. He might be barking alot when I am at work, he still barks but I don't think a person could hear him from more than 5 or 6 hundred yards  Thats no good I had high hopes for him this year.

I guess what I am asking is do you think the prod did it or could he be ill in some way??? any help would be appreciated

THANKS
CODY

I don't think thats your problem. We use a hot shot (cattle prod) all the time for the same reason. Haven't had anything like that happen before. Try finding out weather he's barking himself out while your at work. Maybe try a bark collar. Good luck with your dog, hope it's not something that can't be fixed.

psychologically you could have broke him, however it could be case of laringitus.
I had a female that would wine when we first got her, I scolded her real bad late one night and she did not bark for a few months, thats when I got a bluetick and did not want to make the same mistake again and let him bark, when she noticed they could bark with out getting into trouble she would bark more, and now its subtle behavior mod.

Get a vet check and follow what he sujests and after a time it should get ok again and then try that no bark kennel method collar too. After he is over the laerenjuttiuse thing. It could go on a good while if not properly medicated for and get worsend ya know by not getting looked and by a vet and prescribed meds.
