Its all about the hounds

Post by Cowboyvon »

Just a quick video.... some of my hounds

https://youtu.be/7mzwPV3h4NM
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

Brett I love that Jazz (jas?) female. Any time I see problem solving to that level of understanding and motor skills, I get excited. How is she bred? How has she done for you?
What is her track style?

I noticed you giggling at her toward the end. That is why I like to hunt dogs like her. They make me smile all day.

I would really love to see her on a circling bobcat in a Northern cedar bog. I bet She would figure that gig out pretty quickly, and especially if she had seen it before.

Is she related to Maggie?

Two obvious problem solvers in the same clip. Love it.

Thanks for sharing.

You are moving from there?

Thanks David... she was really hard headed when I got her .. I might of over handled her a bit and took some time for her to come around.. always has been real straight maybe not as cold as some of the other hounds... more track to track but that could be the conditions we have to hunt. only opens when she is on it.. She came from Benny G and has alot of Hendrix blood in her and I believe some of Mike L. stuff .. I have Maggie and Dan, if you watch at the end Dan is the one doing a dance on his hind legs in the pen, they are out of my Booger dog.. Sheila is out of her too and another male that I had that got killed. Sheila I had high hopes for but got bit by a rattlesnake and went haywire for a while.. not sure why... so I let her start running bears and she will really work a bear over ..haven't had her on a lion track since then but I think she should start cold trailing again... The others out of the Booger litter went to some real hard hunters... should be getting reports back this winter. I won't be able to hunt these hard until probably the end of January .. I still get them out 3 times a week

Brett,I wish for the most part that people would stop posting hound hunting related stuff on you tube and facebook /Instagram blah blah blah .
However in your case I really think you are doing a great service letting people who don't understand the sport see some of whats involved in owning and hunting dogs, its refreshing to see footage that is not focused on a kill but focused on an experience.
Good job!

Blackcreekboy , why do you say that you wish that most hound hunting related stuff was stopped on YouTube and Facebook ? I'm A Houndsman and enjoy seeing other people's aventures with their houndsand the Kills. whether that be a duck , squirrel rabbit raccoon bobcat bear lion coyote fox or deer . It is hunting and most everything that is posted is legit. I'll be damned if I'm gonna let a bunny hugger make me feel ashamed of what I love to do it's legal it's my American heritage and and if it makes you feel bad don't play the video . Timothy Morgan

Ridgerunner I meant no disrespect towards anyone who wishes to post or view anything they want in regards to hounds on the internet.I PERSONALLY don't think a lot of what gets put on social media sites helps keep hound hunting legal.
I don't want to derail this thread because I really like the stuff Brett makes.

If I have made you angry and you want to give me a hard time lets start a separate thread thanks.

Thanks ..! I really go back and forth on the issue of posting hunting videos on the internet.. One side of me says why should we be ashamed of what we do and if we are ashamed and we don't think it should be viewed by the public isn't that the first step in admitting that what we do is wrong? Of course there is another side that tells me that for people that really don't think of it one way or another a video in poor taste could sway them..
I don't know whats right.. we are bombarded with gays and transgender crap all the time.. does that make us more against it or accepting in the long run? But then again I don't really care that Bruce Jenner has become a woman .. but that doesn't mean I want to watch the operation lol

Its really hard to capture the joy we have for hunting with our hounds on video .. or for me just riding through the mountains with a pack hounds waiting for that tail whip or that long stike bawl the anticipation early in the morning or the satisfaction after a successful day.. watching that pup find his nose for the first time.. I'm not a big fan of the bang flop videos.. but have nothing against them.. I'll keep trying to capture the magic

And again Thanks!

I think the presidential election shows we still have common sense in the us, at least 50%. I think we worry too much about anti hunters. Let's go ahead and enjoy what you like to do. Cowboy, I've hunted from Alb.to the Colorado line but not down south around Silver City. Would like to. Looks like you have your ducks in a row, enjoy and share what your doing.

Brett when your dog got snake but how did it go haywire and how long has it been? I've had several dogs bitten that once recovered from the poison seemed fine. However my lead dog got hammered really hard a while back I found three seperate strikes to his face and he received prompt medical but still it was nasty for several days. He has been off ever since in many ways and while he still hunts he isn't any where near what he was. There's other things that have changed about him also.

Great video. Shows how much time we spend with our dogs and that we enjoy the crap out of hunting with dogs, catch or not.
