Best bobcat dog for Wyoming conditions

Post by jberryman2 »

Reaching out to hunters that target bobcats in Wyoming, wondering what you have found that work in our conditions as far as breeding and pack makeup. I've got leopards and some grade west coast blood that look like triggs. Thanks in advance for your time.

Sorry I don't have an answer as I don't live there or know what it would take to catch consistently there.

How is what you have doing for you there? I would think the leps and some good hounds would work but there is a lot of variables involved.

How is the bobcat population in WY. I heard it is not that great, and if that is true that will be your biggest problem in my opinion. Only way to make great cat dogs is put them on a lot of cats. If you can't hunt 2 to 4 days a week and if you can't consistently put them on good cat tracks then it will be hard to make good cat dogs no matter what you hunt with.

Sorry for the ramblin, I hope you find what you need.

Jberry.. Your hounds will probably work just fine. If you have one good cold nose start dog that’s going to help you out a bunch. Wyoming is a big state and has Many types of terrain . It seems the bobcat has the advantage most the time .... but oh man it’s fun !!! Timothy Morgan
