in need of opinions

Post by robbyson99 »

my old walker is about 9 or 10 right now. for the past 4 days hes been kinda dragging one of his hind legs. when he walks on it hes walking on the ankle instead of the pads of his foot. and i noticed tonight that when i fed him he was pushing it out to the side when he walked. i know hes old and i was thinking its probably his hip. which makes me wonder what i should do. if a vet looks at it there gonna tell me he needs surgery and well he wouldnt hunt again so that would not be an option for me. how long should i let it go before i take action. i really hate to think that im going to loose another dog seems he would be number 3 in the last 2 years but he is pretty old and its been 4 days with no progress of getting better. any opinions would be greatly appreciated on what i should do and if you think its his hip or something else. thank you

sounds like his old and needs to be retired...i mean you can WANT to hunt all you want, but if physically CAN'T hunt anymore you have to be able to stomach it, for the dogs sake.

take him to the vet if the vet says it isn't going to get better, i would look to use him as a pup trainer..he is a slower hound that can show them how to work a track. when the young dogs pass him up, but him back on the chain...

My old dog was having some hip issues and would scream going in and out of the dog box. I thought it was coming to an end and a friend suggested Yucca. I picked some up from the vitamin store and in 24 hours she was not screaming anymore. I have passed this on numerous times with the same result. It's only about 5 bucks for 50 cap and well worth the try.
