I'm not a yote hunter and this is just second hand opinion from hanging around with some but...

A potential cat hound is worth a lot more than a potential yote hound. Don't waste a hound with talent on cats chasing yotes. If you don't want to hunt cats, sell him to someone whon does and get yourself a yote hound.

A hound bred to be a tree hound is fine for hunting yotes in snow, where the coyote is breaking ground, but its going to be pretty tired by the time it bays up a yote on bare ground. Do yourself a favor and put him in with some other hounds so he has some help at the bayup.

As admirable as the sentiment is about eating what you shoot, not many people that have sampled yote eat them regularly except out of desperation.

now that I know his pups size that better describes the situation.

I second what emily stated.

If you have a dog from good lines of cat dogs, dont waste it on a yote. If you are planning on skinning for fur, why catch 7 to 10 yotes to equal the value of 1 cat from the wetside of Oregon?

I offered earlier to the poster to come down and train on skinning and putting up fur. Killing for fur now is nothing but a waste. A summer yote from eastern OR may bring a sale of a dolar or two if lucky, but most fur buyers will grade it as no value, thin, not silky, rubbed, damage, singed and basically and a waste. Let them get value and then try it.

Like I said, patience is the best method.

* months, do drags with bobcat scent, get it working that. If it dont turn out, run all the yotes you want.lol.

Dont forget the camera either.

thanks steel and emily, Ima gonna work on that bobcat drag, I'm trying to narrow down a good place to buy some scent from, Im trying local first, but it looks like ill have to settle for online.
I just keep watching the paper round here for any free cats too, nothing like improving the chance of him finding a cat track than increasing the numbers of em, lol.
As for seriously hunting yotes, ive pretty much laid off, I just let the pup run these days and whatever he brings back he brings back, I'll start shocking him off game when I can either see what he's running or read the track, and probably when he's bout 1yr old, ima try and keep him a pup for as long as he wants.
