Got a Question.
I/ well We are thinking about getting a started Plott that is hunted on hogs. The question is, has anyone got a dog that was strictly for hog and been directly transferred to bear hunting, succesfully with out being to gritty and grabby and gotten itself killed? Any feedback would be greatfully. Thanks

Alex,
Rule of thumb a good hog dog will make a good bear dog, a good bear dog may not make a good hog dog, see there I used may, there are some that will. A year ago I would have told you that you was full of sh*&, if you said a walker would catch a hog, well I have a walker that's all he likes to do is catch hogs. All of my hog dogs will run bear too. So yes you can do both, your just gonna have to fing the right dogs for the job. Look's like to me you have a good start runnin Plott's

How old do they have the be to do that? We are keeping the blue girl, and if we dont sell both males well keep them. We are wanting to get a different male that isnt the same as our girl, the mom and daughter, that is why we are thinking about getting a hog dog, and not a finished one, just a started one. If we can get 300 for one of our males, that will pay for the vet bill and then it would be good. But if we do end up keeping our 2 pups that would put us at 7 hound plus my pit, so 8 dogs. I mean that wouldnt be bad but its just alot of dogs. 31/2yrs Hemi(3/4 plott 1/4 walker),1yr dakota(1/2 redtick 1/2 hi-tan they dont know what the father exactly is,71/2 bro (Leopard cur i mean hound), 2 duke(walker),1yr silver and 11days her two pups(all plotts).
Hey chuck, this is my dakota dog, we know for sure she is a half redtick, and her dads breed is unknown she is a spitting image of her dad, just a tad bit shorter. In your opinion what do you think her dads mixed? In her litter there were 2 redtick 2 bluetick 2 her and her sister identical and 1 redbone.
Here is a pictures of her.
