Hoppy,
Thats awesome, if ya dont mind me askin, how much did a sheet of that Aluminum Dimond plate cost ya? I think I'm goona go with 1/8" sheet Alum and then take a DA to it to polish it up, but I like the design you have, I like the center door, but I dont think I need a center door, I just cut the center out of the one I have, just to have a little more room, I went fron curs to hounds and these hounds take up more room LOL.
I used 1/8" Diamond plate for the sides and back and used 1/8" inch smoothe for the top. The diamond cost between$225 and $275 for a 4x8 sheet and the smoothe is around $175. I used 1" tubing for the frame work and it is also 1/8" wall. That runs $57 a stick for a 24' stick. The only reason I put the center divider in where I did is because that bed is narrow and it gave me more room this way. I also bed lined the top to help keep it cool in the summer.
I just got a new Tig tourch, so I'm gonna break it in on a new dog box, and I'm just learnin how to Tig weld, so a dox box is perfect pratice huh. I realy like how it looks, but I'm goin more for weight, my steel box is heavy for my Yota. I'm sellin the box that I have pictured, so if any one need's a box let me know, I just want enough out of it to pay for materials for my new one.
Here is a picture of the box I built a couple of years ago. I spent quite a bit of time looking at other boxes and day dreaming about how to build mine. Finally got it drawn up and started on it thought oh I should be able to have it done in a week wrong took longer than that.
Rob I sure like the Rhino lining on yours did you do that or did you have someone do it? Also what product was it?
Hoppy thats a nice box, but as far as im concerned the real catch ya have their is that sweet lookin truck, too bad she's not a diesel, lol.
About how much do these all steel dog boxes cost to weld up in the end? And anyone round the oregon area that can do it?
Rico's box is probly the most in price, due to the technicalness to it, and the mareial used. I dont know how much he spent on it but probly around $1200-1300 on just matieral's + time and labor, the same probly goes for hoppys rig. Witch you both have awesome rigs. I have $700.00 in material in mine and about a week and a half building it, thats not including my flatbed so about $1000.00 total in the flatbed & Box for me.
Moonshinner,
My box is for sale, it's built for a toyota but fits great in a chevy or ford pickup's. Let me know if your interrested.
Right now I have about $800.00 into just materials. When it's all said and done I figure to have around $1000.00 total into just materials.
I want to get a tig welder soon also. I built this box with an aluminum mig spool gun.
Moonshiner if it were a diesel I run that bio-diesel through it made from french fry grease. Maybe the bears would start hunting me down and make it alittle easier.
Rico that liner isn't Rhino or Linex. It is made by Sherwin Williams and it's called S.E.M bedliner. We spray it at my body shop. We've used it on septic trucks, horse trailers, truck beds, dump trucks. It holds up real well and best of all we can tint it any color the person needs.
12gauge I just plan ahead when I load the dogs. Pack dogs and young ones go in the front compartment, and my start dogs and ones I want to work with go on the back to make it easier to get to them. By the time I'm ready to unload the pack hounds and young ones there is nothing left on the back. Or if I think I'm going to dump them all at once I don't have to close the center door up and let them run the whole box.

Go to the places that build driftboats.. If the drifboat place itself won't do it, maybe one of the guys will.. That is how most of the houndsmen around here get them built..
