Worming the pups

Post by Moonshiner »

The vet today gave me two plastic vials and told me to get them back to them to have the dogs poo tested for worms, well Im not in favor of the $100 or so dollar test so I was just going to worm em.
Whats a good wormer for the pups, ive only ever wormed horses myself so this will be a new experience.
Thanks

Pyrantel liquid every two weeks starting at 3 weeks age until 16 weeks of age. 1cc/ml for 10 pounds body weight.
Use Pyraquantal or Canex at 5 weeks. (It has the pyrantel in it so skip the dose of pyrantel at 5 weeks.)
Also give ivermectin (heartworm eliminator) at 5 weeks. Just a drop for pups (mixed with grape juice or something) every 45 days orally. When they are older increase the dosage acordingly. 1/10 cc/ml per 15-20 pounds of body weight, if you use the 1% ivermectin liquid injectible cattle/swine variety. Do NOT use Ivermectin Plus. That will kill a dog, but the plain ivermectin is safe and effective.
You can get the pyrantel in a liquid form from about any vet supply house.
Order the Canex or Pyraquantal from interpet on the net.
