heart murmers

Post by Jarret »

I have a bluetick pup 8 months old that the vet says has a heart murmer. what i'm wondering is do u think i should leave him at home or should i run him doing what he was born to do until he drops. If i dont let him run will he become a problem dog.

First I'd go to the breeder and let them know that you have a problem. I'd think they would replace the pup or give you a refund. They should sure be happy to find out the news. Heart murmers can be hereditary or contracted from eating a certain kind of bug. They can also be caused by heartworms. Anyhow if I were the breeder I'd get the parents checked out. You definatly don't want to breed the parent that it's coming from.

As for running the pup, hopefully you don't have to bucause it got replaced by the breeder. If they don't replace the pup then I'd run it. That's what it was breed to do and loves to do. I had a gyp that ended up dying from it at the age of 7. I'm not sure how long she had it before she died. I tried to have several litters out of her an she alway miscarried. I'm sure she had it for several years. Although she was never the fastest dog she worked well her whole life. Good luck with your pup!!!

If the pup has a detectable murmur at 8 months old go back to the breeder.
