Foot color?
Black vs pink, pink/black. My observation has been that black feet are tougher, but i have not had as much contact with pink/black feet. What are your thoughts/observations on this. The few that i have had experience with seemed to hold up fairly well, but it just depended on the terrain we were running. This ? might have been asked already, but i tried the search feature...dont know for sure if i done it right.
If you got something to say, say it!!!

Get some Plott's and you wont have to worry about runnin there feet off.LOL, to tell ya the truth, I have never had a problem with that Black feet or pink. I think it has to do with how the dog travels, there weight/foot size, and flat out if the dogs skin is conditioned or not. I have seen some of these great big dogs have little ol cat feet, man it looks like there walkin on chop sticks, and they cant last through a long hard race and then on the other hand I've seen some dogs that have great big'ol coon feet that are tough as nails that you can run on a hard race evry day of the week, so I think it's all about how you condition your dogs

I believe that pigment plays a role, just from my experience with horses feet. I also believe that genetics plays a role. From the early ages of puppies, you can pick out the tight footed and loose footed, its obvious. i thinkthat it comes down to a certian strain of a certain breed. The breed being whatever you like to hunt, some are gonna have better feet than others, but I also believe that certain breeds are gonna have a lower percent of tough feet than others. A high percentage of tough feet has to be given to the Plott, those dogs hardly ever have pad issues, when thier feet swell and fliud starts oozing out of the tops of them is when you need to lay off and let em heal, thats a pretty tough foot to show no pad issues. I have a walker/bluetick that has just as good and tight feet as my plotts as well. Here comes the bashing I'm gonna get, but I personally feel that this is one of the weak points in the Walker breed, in my humble observations I have not seen one with feet that could hold up to a rigorous hunting schedule. Not saying they are not out there, just in a smaller percentage than other breeds.

somethimg to watch
for in Blueticks, Black & Tans , & bigger Walkers is over exercising as pups. The heavier breeds are more susceptible to breaking down their tendons behind the paw as they are growing. We coulndn't figure out why our tight footed blue was always bad after an ice run..The vet told us too much running as pups when they are in that clumsy stage strains the tendons and causes them to become flat footed so to speak. Then there is not equal pressure around the paw but towards the heel where it is weak.

Like it was said above I think it depends on the genetics. You will find black feet that will blow out a lot and you will find pink feet that will blow out a lot. Also like said above I think conditioning has a part in it too.
