Man wormer is expensive!
I need cheaper wormer. $20/ 50# dog , $30/ 70# dog. Vet gave me Drontral Plus it supposed to be good for all the worms. Any suggestions? I also bought a bottle of Pyrantel Strongid for worming the pups. $190 for 600ml unbelievable. Man I thought fuel was expensive. Worming horses are cheaper. Makes me glad i only have 4 dogs and 3 pups.

wormer
Check out Canex Multi wormer on Interpet.biz website. Cheaper than Drontal. They have pretty good prices on most of their products.

Moonshiner, you should try Canex. It gets all types of worms. It is easily ordered from www.interpet.biz. I have been using it for several years. It is a lot cheaper than the route you are taking and very effective.

I sometimes use Safeguard Goat Wormer... It works great.. I just have a kick ass vet who gives me wormer really cheap..
If you use the Safeguard Goat Wormer you have to adjust the dosage..
Here is the breakdown for converting the amount from the goat dose to dog dose of the Safeguard liquid wormer.
The dog dose for Fenbendazole is 50mg/kg or 23mg/# given orally for 3 consecutive days.
You have a 10% solution which is 100mg/ml. So the dose for a dog would be .23 ml per pound or 2.3 ml per 10#. A 50# dog would get 12 ml. The dosage for dogs is usually much higher than other species for fenbendazole. In this case, the dog dose is 10X higher than the goat dose (5mg/kg) so a 100# dog would get 23 ml of Fenbendazole (Safegaurd) 3 days in a row.
And I got this dosage from a vet... It is about $19.00 for a bottle.. It takes me two bottles when I was worming 10 dogs- 3 days in a row.. And I was just having to get into the second bottle..

I certainly could be wrong, but I do not believe there is a SINGLE wormer sold in the U.S. which gets all intestinal worms. Droncit is only effective against tapes. Fenbendazole is not effective against all tapes and must be given 3 days in a row.
Canex is effective against all intestinal worms (it contains praziquantal) and it costs about $3 or $4 to worm a 50lb. dog. They recommend giving it quarterly. but I give it semi-annually.
There is no doubt that you can do an effective job with many wormers (combinations), but I much prefer the simplicity (one treatment) with tablets and the low cost of Canex.

I use pyraquantal. I also get it online from www.interpet.biz
1 tablet for each 22 lbs. of dogs' weight. Works great. No fasting or anything required.
I do use it quarterly as instructed.
Good luck!

Drontal is just pyrantel and droncit..so you won't touch the whipworms (which is the toughest to eliminate and the hardest on dogs). Nemex, Strongid and several others are just pyrantel, which can be bought a lot more cheaply in a pure form. Pyrantel should be used for puppies (and nursing bitches), every two weeks starting at 3 weeks of age until 16 weeks of age. The Drontal Plus, Canex and Pyraquantal are the same formula, but the Canex and Pyraquantal can be bought from foreign sources more cheaply. They are just generic copies of Drontal Plus. The foreign sources do not have to abide by U.S. patent laws. That is why Drontal and Drontal Plus are so expensive and you need a prescription.
Bayer owns the patents on them.
If you use Pyraquantal or Canex plus ivermectin you will be keeping your dogs essentially worm free.
