Wash then and drain the sore at least 3 times a day. You can buy some granulex which comes in a spray that you can get in most feed stores. After you clean it spray the granulex on it then let it drain off for a bit then hit it with some blu-kote. Do that every time you clean it. I have cured a lot of abscess like that. Also keep the dog off of the dirt until it is healed. If you stopped giving the dog penicillin after the first treatment then it is probably not doing anything for the dog now. A good antibiotic is Clavamox. It can be hard to get if you dont know someone that is or works for a vet.
She might have had a foxtail go down into her ear canal and now it is working its way out??, just a guess.
Good luck

antibiotics
You can use Cephalexin also. 500 mg twice a day for 7-10 days (60-70 pound dog). It is easier to come buy then Clavamox. Look in most hound magazines.Using antibiotics for to short of a time is how resistant bacteria are created.
