They're so damned ornery they'd eat themselves out the south end of a north facing bear if they ever got swallowed. :D

MY friend got one out of the Redding pound they were going to kill, took him hunting on a mean bear ,turned the Pitt loose, ran in grabbed the bear by the leg, bear looked down at him and then slapped him half in to, ending his career right there.

Pitts

A Good friend of mine ran pitts for a few years. Those dirty fighting s.o.b.s killed more good dogs than I can count. there not as tough on bear as you may think. and there damn sure not bear hounds. I would never run pitts or run with them.

Find some one where you live that trees a lot of bear no matter what bred, get some dogs from him,and you can quit looking for a better mouse trap

There are plenty of "bear dogs" that carry bulldog blood, though few will lay claim to it...
Some Plotts aint much more than longer eared pits, so you can still watch plenty of dogfights...LMFAO

Take care.

ive ran 2 that were 1/4 pitt - even at 25% pitt i thought i gave up a lot of nose and speed

sorta hard to train -

they were gritty on a bear if they could catch a bear --there was some in that litter that were ok dogs -

better off to look for better hounds -

i wouldnt have another unless i needed a catch dog for hogs-

plotts seem to work up here. i like them but each to his own. and im not too sure but ive never seen a pure plott that was as crazy as a pitt. but i have seen some darn gritty plotts, they usually learn within the first or second bear they catch on the ground, if not they usually dont live to see the third.

There are some mainly hog guys with pit crosses but won't shy away from a bear track. They have hounds to find and run the track. The pitt crosses seem to lag behind until they stop it. They also go threw ALOT of dogs. Any aggression AT ALL and the dog is gone and then the "good ones" don't last much longer. They will indeed "yoke" a good sized bear if it doesn't tree. If you like to sew, feed, sew some more, visit the vet, cull and or shoot alot of aggressive dogs pitt crosses are the way to go. (FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN) If not, don't go with em.
