Mt. Curs as bear dogs?

Post by Jake Bell »

just wondering what Mt. curs are like on bears, i love my plotts but ive always wanted one of these curs to try out. Seems like they would be easier handlin then a 60 lb plott. I would love to get one with a decent nose, built to go with tree and grit ( just like a plott  lol ) i hunt in ontario and there are lots of swamps, hills, rocks and rivers to get over and around, just wanted something that i can hunt bears coons and coyotes with that no one else around here has lmfao

well i have a lepoard cur that is my start dog. but i have owned mt. cur x stephens cur dogs that did well. a good friend i hunt with he had a mt cur and a stephens that were both asome dogs. the mt cur was only about 40 lbs if that. she was getting to be a realy nice dog untill she got killed. she would start to finish bear and coon here in california. the stephens cur was a male and he worked start to finish on bear coon bobcats and lions he in california and montana. he was only about 50 lbs but realy easy to handle. both of them would catch there own game. the only bad part to stephens is they can get prety small about 18 lbs. they seem to be just as gritty as a plott.

JB I got a cur from M.Workman about a year ago and another pup last weekend from J.Wilson. The older one handels great and @ a year old has been on 6 bears by himself from start to finish, he still has a long way to go but its looking good. I would suggest one from big game lines like a Striker bred.
