Dog Containment Systems

I have thinking about purchasing one of these systems. I was wondering if any one has any experience with these and have a brand name they like and can recommend. I am looking at the Dogtra right now. I would like to get the best one but there are several that look like they are pretty good.

are you talking about wireless fences? If so I would love to hear some feedback on them.

I have one of the Petsafe wireless fencers and it works great. You can set the range on unit itself from 10ft to 90ft. It works through walls, but if your foundation sits too high out of the ground, it won't work through it.

I was looking at that one first but I didn't like how you have to buy those special batteries for the collars. Do you know how long those batteries last?

the two main drawbacks to these things is if your dog is gritty they may decide it's worth getting zapped AND it won't keep other dogs out of your yard. at least w/ a fence or kennel, if you have a stupid billybob w/ "giant pit bulls" terrorizing the neighborhood your dog is somewhat protected.

Vance M, you are absolutely right about the stupid batteries because they are $8 for two of them, and sometimes you have to do some searching to find them in stock. They will usually work for a month and half to two months. It really depends on how much your dog tests it. They collar draws the most battery power when the collar beeps or zaps the dog, so the longer your dog wears it, the more they will know their boundaries and the longer the battery will last.

I have three of them and it gives the dogs a Couple Acres to roam.

Two things I would recomend. I always train my dogs to line with both the containment collar and a Tri-tronics. If I see a Dog get too comfortable with where He thinks the line is I'll put a Tri-tronics on him and will remind all the way back to the house...

Normally after this the dog really take that warning Beep Very serious..

As for Running through the fence they will have to run through about 30-45 seconds worth.. it will keep correcting because it corrects when it looses the Signal.. It's not like the Wire fences that the dogs learn to run through and only get hit for 10-15 seconds.

As for the batteries Mine last anywhere from 2 to 4 months.. again depending on how much the dogs test the line.... Don't let them learn the exact boundary or you will go throug Batteries.

I have a Place to buy those batteries in Bulk and save allot of money.. They cost 10 bucks for two in the store, I think I get them for 5.50 or so for two but I buy 25 or 50 packages at a time.. I'd have to look up the site I buy them at..
