So what does it take to make a special bear dog Pete? (this question is just for Pete)

ike
to make one or what is one- :?:

- i didnt want to start the whole " BEAR DOG " or " top shelf " argument again-
so special dog works for me -

a special dog trees bear on a regular basis -

alone or with company - and lives to old age -

doesnt get outrun - doesnt get whipped off -

using that definition i guess ive never seen one--

so id have to say seldom gets whipped off or outrun-

then maybe ive seen a few-

hes the dog you find under a tree after all the others are in the truck

i dont know what it takes to make one- but i know one when i see one -

lol

how bout more hunting than any sane person can do l :!: - luck , - generations of breeding and culling -
a buddy of mine has had a couple- - he was able to hunt 6-7 days a week for years - went thru hundreds of dogs -

hes had a half dozen real good dogs but those 2 were a whole different category-
and he had both at the same time--

one time he treed a bear or bayed one solid 30 days in a row -

not hunting days -- 30 calender days -

ive seen one of those dogs just playing with a bear that would send a pretty good dog out of the woods-

and he lived to be 16

lot of potentially special dogs never live long enuff -- :)
