I always hang up a couple fly traps, along with yellowjacket traps, by the kennels. I also use Bronco horse fly spray on them. Works great. The flies seem to love my Brisco's ears and if I don't squirt him down once a day, they just eat them up. I have heard you can put garlic powder or give them a garlic pill each day to help, but I prefer to just fly spray them. I think it is about $7.00 a bottle and I use one, maybe a bit more per summer on all the dogs.

I try to clean kennels regularly and i use Farnam Flys-off. It repels them as well as heal sthe sores and wounds left by them. it works pretty good and doesnt cost a lot

I hate those little bloodsuckers! Use a good fly repellant and make sure the dog's houses have a flap of fabric or carpet that completely covers the opening so the dog can escape the really big flies. The big, giant horse flies aren't kept away well by repellant but thankfully there aren't as many of them as the little ones.

fly problems

Post by rich h »

Here on the south shore of Lake Superior we have the same kind of flies as Canada. During hot dry weather they are just plain overwhelming.
The past several years when flies are at their worst I put them in my insulated garage. It's 24' X 36.' Just run a chain from one way to another and attach bolt snaps every 4 or 5 feet...don't leave any room for dogs to move around and get tangled...then turn on a big barn fan. They love laying on the cool concrete floor all day. On moderately bad fly days I spray the with WIPE...its a fly spray for horses. The new improved version in the green bottle give several hours of relief. Costs $15.00.

Post by pogo56 »

ok, at tractor supply there is stuff in a orange bottel like bronco but not quite, its kindof expensive but it works for weeks at a time....2nd blue steak, get it from tractor supply to....it stinks its a fly attractant and it kills them quick.....but u have to use it with care it will kill your dog to....but i use a 5 gallon pail cut the poor spout out and fill bucket 1/2 full with dog poop and sprinkle this stuff in there and set off ground 1-2 feet...and just keep adding the attractant to it and it should help with your problems

Golden Malrin fly bate is the best there is. Sprinkle it around dog pens on the outside or put in little containers where the dogs can't get to it and you will never have any flies. Flies go to it and you can watch them die. Little yellow
granuals. Sprinkle outside pens or put in little containers out of dogs reach.
