Hope you do better then we did in the Selway. 7 1/2 hours in with 5 head for 6 days never saw an elk and the only sign was 2-3 days old. Great time with my dad but saw 3 wolves in the daytime and fresh dog sign everyday. A great place and should be loaded with elk but for wolves have destroyed a great place.

Hope your trip is bountiful.

sorry to hear the trip was a bust Bruce. The selway is a thing of the past anymore. Right now there are at least a dozen outfits for sale inside the selway because of them damn things

Have a good trip Roy. If you get the chance, snap a picture of your outfit.

Del Cameron has a picture of his son headed into camp with hay and supplys hanging on his wall. Very cool picture, can't remember how many mules but it was a bunch.

Roy, Spanky

Your right it would have been a bust if it wasnt for great scenery and the whole packing experience with my dad. He is getting older and will probably be one of our last long pack trips.

Good luck

Just got back from there about a week ago. LOL...if you see a mule at the bottom of Big Creek, just think of me...22 head...pitch black dark...my 22 year old son...16 year old daughter...11 year old daughter and a 64 year old drunk!!! What a wreck  Guess the only good that came from this year's trip was that I was lucky enough to get a pup bought and picked up that came from Spanky's place.  Sometimes ya just gotta laugh at what the good Lord gives.

Let's hear more about the wreck. What happened? Did the mule die? Very interested in hearing how it happened. Thanks

mule wreck

Post by jjjjranch »

Well, it was a 3 year old molly raised in Florida...never been packed in the hills before. She got ta pullin' back...slid down the hill and took 3 others with her...had ta cut her loose to save the string. Worked ta get her up the hill and on the trail all night. She kept slippin' down the hill till she was in the creek bunked up against boulders. She was gone by mornin'. First one I've lost in the 20+ years of packin' in there.

Roy, here is a pic I snapped the other day. I was down stream from you, and on the other side of the Frank. I hope your having a great fall. I'll probably be in your neck of the woods in a month or two.
