TN bear hunting

Post by Hunter »

We had a pretty good morning. A buddy and I went together and had a heck of a race. The dogs split and his best dog (a 3 legged Kemmer) started barking treed/bayed. She would be loud and then go silent for some time. We made our way to where she was but could only hear a muffled bayed bark. We listened for a while when I started to hear rocks rolling around and they sounded like they were under us. We searched around and located his dog in a cave that ran under our feet. The entrance was just big enough for me to crawl into and light my lighter but I couldn't see anything because it was so far back. I crawled as deep as I dare for fear of getting stuck and had him pull me out by my feet. We then started digging and an hour later we broke threw and caught his dog and pulled her out. It was a big chamber but I still couldn't see more than a foot or two when I stuck my head in and light my lighter again. By this time the other dogs had quit the track and we caught them up and headed to another spot. When we got there we unintentionally turned out on some buddys as there dogs jumped a bear and our dogs went to there's and treed. They waited on us and we got to watch a little 7 year old boy take his first bear. A 150# boar bear. The boy was more proud of his dog saying "dad did ya see (never did understand what he called his dog) he was doing good wasn't he" than he was of his bear. That's the makings of a true houndsman right there.

I'm gonna go bust the brush tomorrow and got high hopes for a good race :D We think we got one found that we ought to be able to turn right on but I guess I will see. I would just like to see the dogs do good and see one in a tree
