best ATVs and what everyones using

Post by southwestwalkers »

I'm looking into buying a ATV and wanted to get the opinion of what the best ones out there are. If I left out a manufacturer please mention them. Thanks for your help.

Robb

p.s. Wanted to add bombardier to the voting but missed it. Open to getting the opinion on bombardier atvs as well.

I really enjoy the versatility of my Polaris X2. It is a two seater model that has a large cargo box on the back that I made into a dog box and rig box. The independent suspension makes the rides much smoother on dogs and me. Plenty of power and very stable on the ruff stuff. I have owned other brands and I would buy another Polaris before any other.
Just my Opinion

If you're going to be hunting in rough country and or snow, then it is a must that your quad have locking differentials. Most don't, so you are realy only running power to two wheels at a time. I'm running Kawasaki's for this reason. Yamaha also has lockers but I don't like how they engauge, you must be stopped. The Kawasaki's have a lever you pull to ingauge the lockers so when you hit a snow drift and need the lockers, you just pull the lever and don't need to slow down.

Thanks for that point I would have not figured that. I'm in the looking phase so I'll keep that in mind.

arctic cat

have an arctic cat 700 efi. belt driven kind of like a snow mobile. alot easier then the chain. efi means any elevation. push button 4x4 and a small lever button for the locking diffs. have the 700 because of thesnow tracks in winter. once you go cat you will never go back. for all you other boys stop chasing pussy and buy a cat. just kidding all machines are about the same these days.
live every day as if it was your last.

What do you want to know?? That's pretty much all I've mostly ride. Both My Father and my brother in law has them. I haven't decided if that's what I'll buy or not..

The Pros:
They are big, bad and ugly Work horses that go where you want. With the right agressive Tires they just don't stop. Good Heavy suspension if you throw a Rack on the back and three dogs up there it will hold them without squatting too much. We've hauled out a 375lb Bear straight up a steep clear cut with it and it wasn't stopping.. We Just had to make sure it didn't flip over because it was soo steep and was doing a wheelie the whole way up with. They'll climb a damn tree if your not careful..It Feels like your driving a Tank..

The Con's:
They are Big and don't turn very great when you get in tight spots you'll need to do a couple point turns, They are Not Made for doing cookies or dounuts in the gravel (Found that out the hard way).. Your arms will feel tired after a hard day of Riding it. You feel like your driving a Tank.. (Did I say that somewhere else?)

I keep thinking about buying a quad.. And I would kinda prefer one that has a 2x4 / 4x4 switch, because that would make it easier to steer. I'm not sure if the new bombadier have that option or not. Also If I buy one for my wife, I'm looking at one with power steering for her.. Something that's a little easier to handle. the bombardier isn't a easy riding bike.. It's built to work.. Too bad you don't live over here, I'd let you ride it for a day, You'll either love it or hate it.. and I'm not sure how I feel about it yet, and it's been 8-9 years..

BuddyW,

Thanks for that info on the Bombardier and your invitation. I have checked them out and I was impressed with them.

Anyone, living in a area with a lot of snow that they use a snow plow hooked to it? I'm guessing the more power the better?
