Silver Mist
Can any body tell me some history on the big silver mist blue dogs? Tim you sugarcreek guys seem to know a little about them. Sonny Beauchamp and Berry Lewis have some of these dogs. I was just wanting to know a little more about them.

The History
Bearman I would like to know a little history about them. Who bred the dogs, where the breeder is from, what he hunted them on etc...?

Silver Mist kennel has been the kennel name of Bob Mattscheck for a good many years. way back in the 1960's Bob had an outstanding Nite Ch male - Blue Pilot Mike.. won about ever hunt in the New England states. got so that if he entered Mike those who had already entered would withdraw. then he bought Silver Mist Strolling Buck from Carl Kasse. Buck was not "finished in the sense that he had a title.
Bob has been very picky about what he breeds and who gets pups from him..... and will continue to be that way. his bloodlines are linebred from those hounds plus the Jason hound that he obtained from Mel Farber.
in the 80's Bob "retired" with a pension from the state of Rhode Island and made a long trip to the west and Canada in search of the ideal place to hunt lion and Bear.... on that trip he stopped here for a few days and was looking for a female to breed to the Thunder hound he had raised from Jason and his old line hounds... he purchased a female from Rudy Matson that was from my old Bones and Rudy's Ann... one cross was made and he placed some at various locations.... some in Canada, some in Idaho, one here, and some in the east. he finally relocated at Darby MT and thus began hunting in the Selway-Bitterroot area.
.... we started some of his hounds here on coon and then he took them lion hunting.... he hunted lion several years before moving back to the east... but the call of the mountains won out and they moved back to Hamilton MT . . I had the pleasure of hunting with him in that first spell in MT . and again after he moved back to Hamilton in 95.
another trip to the east coast for a spell and the call of the high country won out. back to Darby... this was to be rather unfortunate as the increasing population of wolves cost him some of the breeding stock that he had intrusted to a friend near Kalispell,
due to the wolves more than anything, about 2 years ago Bob relocated to Virginia and then to Rhode Island and is now settled back in VA,
he is now hunting coon.
I have some of his stock in the hounds I hunt.

Don
Thanks Don that is exactly what I was looking for. I appreciate the information! Dukey I'd be interested to chat a little with you and discuss your silver mist dogs. We have two half silver mist dogs here. Both are a year old and one is Barry Lewis' and the other is suppose to go to a guy in California.
