the old version or the re-make? I like the old version the best....amazing what they could do years ago without all the technology they use today.

The second one kind of sucks. I showed it to my daughter and it isn't as good as the first. Dave MAthews is the father and it just wasn't done as well as the first. Also the redbones they had in the attack scene sucked. They were some really sorry lookin hounds.

Dave Matthews the singer is the father in the 2nd show? Or another Dave Matthews I don't know of... ?? That's funny if it's the singer.

Geez, they couldn't get David Lee Roth?

The movie and book both made a big impression on me as a kid and I'm not interested in seeing some Studio's attempt at a modern day version to try and make a little extra money off a classic. (Translation: I'm just too cheap to go rent it)

My kids saw the original and it was good enough for them and me. No more interested than I would be if they made a remake of Old Yellar or a modern version of Outlaw Josey Wales with Leo DiCaprio instead of Clint.

Dave Matthews... that's funny. Did he take his guitar to the tree or burst into song at any point during the show? Instead of chopping down a big tree, he could just sit in the shade strumming and singing "Crash Into Me"...

Personally, I thought the film had a real chance to do for some of the young folks of today what it may have done for some of us back in our youth. However, when I looked around on the set in California I realized that I was probably the only real hunter in the group and that was sad....

When the DVD came out I saw where they'd used extras on that DVd to show how the dogs were trained and spent time talking to Nicole and others who have never been involved in hunting. She and the rest are surely good at what they do but didn't know anything about hunting or hunting dogs.

The producers of that movie could have interviewed some of the great coonhunters of our time and provided a chance to bring more of today's hunters to the table on this film....but they did miss the boat I'm afraid. The film was a movie about hunting but done by people who were not hunters, and that is also sad....

In the end the producers (had they been hunters) missed the chance to bring in a new group of young people to our sport....and like they say there is strength in number. And I liked the actors of today, as I've never been a person that clings to the past. The new movie got a thumbs up from me while the old one was something of the past and not worth watching anymore.

And those ugly red dogs on the tree were most likely mine, although there was three different groups of Dan and Ann. They wanted to lease mine to do the film and I refused to allow them to screw up a good pack of lion and bear dogs. I did, however, go bail the film company out after they leased two hounds that had never been trained nor had ever caught a damn thing. But I made them pay for it...............

Yes H.D. it's the one and the same Dave Mathews the singer. He's the cleanest looking farmer I ever did see, and a horrible actor at best. Ike I was just razzing you about those dogs. They actually looked pretty good! By the way, both of our redbones have some of the same Hoffmeister blood running in 'em and I could help but give ya a little hard time.

Glad you were just joking Zach cause ole Ike is just too tired to fight tonight. I started a traveling tom this morning in a canyon and got in behind six of my dogs. They stayed far enough ahead of me they were on the edge of what I could hear.

Five or six hours later they had cold trailed up over the mountain and I had walked back out to the truck. I drove like hell warmed over and fifteen or twenty miles later I was on top of the mountain to radio, with only an hour or so of daylight left. Luckily, I snagged all six of them crossing the back side of the mountain just before dark cause they were headed into no man's land.

I'm getting too old for that shit............

I know how ya feel Ike. Trailing cats is fun, but finally getting home safe with all your dogs and cracking a cold one is better than getting one in a tree some days. It's all fun though.

Both the new and old version of the movie are good and nice to have in the collection. I also enjoyed the movie Where the Red Fern Grows II. The boy comes home after fighting in WWII and gets some more redbones.
