Removing dew claws. Why or why not?
I have been thinking about removing the front dew claws on the pups when my female whelps. My dogs, except 1, have them and I have had the dogs rip them off while hunting and in the crusty snow they are always getting worn down and bleeding.. But then I came across this article while browsing...

So what do you all think? Do you remove or not remove and reasons please.
Thanks

The boy still has his dew claws. I do keep them real short as I can. They get as sharp as razors if I don't. I ask the same question on here in Nov and most of the feed back was to leave them so thats what I done. If it becomes a issue of them causing a problem I can still have them removed but so far so good...

You would have to take him to the vets. They would need to put him under.
The pups are going to go down. I got one males done easy. Snip snip. The second pup, the clippers had already dulled. I got them, but had to cut them about 3 times each.... SO they are going to the vets.. I'll spend the $60.00 to get that done for them.

We remove dew claws from anything born here, cleaner smoother look and stuff to break or trim. 9mnts old thats solid bone by then.We use square edge finger nail clippers or u can use some 2lb test and make slip knot do as soon as born much easier, less painful 9mnts would be like u or me going to doctoer and saying remove my finger!

It's a great price.. But free is better.. I just couldn't do it.. The puppies were crying and I admit, I was all teared up... Sometime being a girl has it's bad points. Next litter Nick better be home to do it.southwestwalkers wrote:$60.00 is a good price Melanie.
