Feeding Dogs Venison

I been feeding ven, hog, turkey, and other odds and ins from my freezer that was questionable and my pup is growning leaps and bounds. I however boil my meat then break it up into smaller peices then cook it into a kinda stew with some beef broth. I know it's rediculas but I don't have alot to do. I do this so I can free up freezer and fridg space. I just place it all in a bowl and feed out of it daily until it runs out and then make another batch. I have noticed a decrease in crap laying around the lot myself. There is a butcher down the road and I just found out that I can buy a 55 gallon drum of hog and beef scrapes (deer when in season) for only 5$. There is several hundred pounds of meat in this barrel and it took myself and 2 other strong boys to lift it in my truck bed. I am going to purchase a large vat to cook off larger amounts and old freezer for the shop so I can get acouple barrels at a time. That is A HECK of alot cheaper than dog food.

The greyhound guys around the tracks feed meat all the time.
There are places around the tracks that sell frozen meat .
This is scraps & bone from nearby packing houses.
If u are a bear hunter, feeding meat will give your dogs more desire to battle the bear & run to catch.
Wolves have been eating meat since day one, & dogs came from wolves.

raw pork-> worms, unless you worm frequently do not give pork to any of your dogs.

The absolute best meat you can feed your dogs is horse meat or beaver. Highest protein and fat content. It's what most dog mushers feed if they can get it.

One man said his dogs were broke from deer, feed them a week on deer first time out all ran a deer.

Now as cheap as horses are it would pay a guy to buy a horse take it behind the barn kill it package it up for his dogs,don't know what the law is on it know they closed down all the kill pens. that is why horses are so cheap .

I have fed raw to my dogs for about 20 years. I have spent much of my adult life in dogs. I spent many years educating myself on canine diet, structure, etc.
Anyway, that said, I feed a mixture of raw Beaver (very rich) chicken, rabbits, venison and a wee bit of beef. I actually grind up the beaver, chicken and rabbits with bones and all. I do a little bit of supplementing. My dogs are solid muscle and are very healthy. I found grains to be inappropriate for my dogs. Also bred dogs for many years. Raised pups on raw meaty bones. Everyone, even those that refused to feed raw, raved about my pups health and even they noticed a difference in them compared to the kibble (lots of grains and highly processed) fed pups.
For my dogs I have found if I feed an average of 50% bone to 50% meat they stay extremely healthy. I try to mix the leaner meats, (venison, rabbit), with the fattier or richer meats like beaver and chicken. I like to give them more beaver in the winter though. I do NOT feed Muskrats...........makes them smell really bad, and our dogs are in the bedroom and house with us......they like them but we just use those as bait for other critters.
For healthy dogs it is imperative to feed bone (raw) not just meat. They get much of thier nutrients from the marrow and natural calcium and phosphorus (which is imperative for health, and hard to balance by supplementation, I do not supplement with calcium/phosphorus). In the winter especially I aupplement with a green blend and a multi vitamin, but not everyday, I don't get all stressed out about it. I also buy a high quality powder supplement for dogs and cats. There are alot of vitamins out there that hardly provide any benefit (for humans and pets), so one has to do thier research.

I forgot to add:
I feed my dogs separately in thier kennels if I can't be there. If I feed them in the same space I am there, as I am leader. Raw food especially is a "high value" item, so dogs will compete for it. Same with raw bones. Even the cats get raw at feed time and they have to stay out of bowls etc. If the cats get in the dogs bowls while they are eating, you might hear a light growl but never big aggression. I will take the cat/kitten away and the cats learn from this. The dogs are not to bother each other while eating.
In the dog/wolf world.....once a dog leaves a dish or leaves a bone or meat pile, that means it is up for grabs....if a dog is still at it, leave them alone or there will be a confrontation. This is nature.
I do not allow my dogs to fight over food, this I teach to them. Makes for a more peaceful and tolerable environment. The leader does control the "goods" or "high value" stuff.
