kennel cough

Post by jlyman »

Have any of you guys ever dealt with this. My oldest hound caught this from a damn stray dog. I guess I should have shot her when I had the chance instead just peppering her a$$ with BBB's. Now he is sick and all messed up. We have a pet cat and all he does is look and turn around if he was normal he eat it for lunch. What do you have to do so he won't get the same stuff again. I've heard that it spreads though your kennel like a wild fire. So far none of my other dogs got the same stuff

Thanks

Sounds like if he isn't acting himself, than it's become more than just kennel cough. Kennel cough is annoying, and can cause them to go a little hoarse, but if he is acting like you say, I'd just about bet he's got a touch of pneumonia.

Might want to put him on some antibiotics. Possibly give him a PenG inj.

Mundo has been vaccinated for it, but the vaccination only covers a handful of the hundreds of strains. Actually, Mundo already had it once this year too, after one of our events. So he probably won't catch it again. LOL.

Hope your old dog gets better soon.

I took my English to the vet about 2 years ago because she had a cough. Long story short the Vet said she had Kennel cough so I treated her for it as often as I was supposed to and it never went away and she never barked for me again. Soooooooooo be careful I guess.

That is what my vet said he also had we got three pills that we are giving him. That is good to know about mundo because I was going to take him up and get the shot just to be safe. So now all im waiting on is my one dog to get better than the bears we will be chaseing intill it snows.

How has your bears season been going

Season's been going real good. For having such a young inexperianced pack. Aspen has really done a great job. She's not perfect, and not super dog, but I seem to forget she's not even 2 yet. So for all the weight being put on her, she's doing great. Can't wait til it snows as well. I'd like to see how many Cats we got around here. Another week and I can start hunting Joker again too once Deer season's over. He's been pretty upset not getting to go.

Mundo had his Bordatella Vaccine in June I want to say, and I think he got kennel cough in the end of July-August. They say to revaccinate them every 6 months, so it wouldn't hurt to have it done again in December. But like I said it only covers a handful, and not even the most common strains, so it's kinda like pissin in the wind. Not really worth doing I guess.

When I had my bluetick pup a while ago, the whole yard caught kennel cough after an event (like 7 dogs at the time) ranging from like 4 months old to 9 years old, and he was the only one that got pneumonia. He had it super bad in his chest. His immune system was real low I guess. He also got a staph infection too afterwards, took a while for everything to bounce back. It's weird how it affects some dogs differently.

Good luck hunting,
keep me updated and send pics!

I work at a Vet's office, LOL. So I see a lot of it... I've also been at dog shows and around dogs since in the womb. So even if I didn't work as a Tech, lol... I've seen some nasty cases of Kennel Cough. Most of the time it's just an annoyance. But it can turn into something worse, and when it does, it sure takes a toll. Thankfully antibiotics seem to take care of it instantly.

I had to work today, but my boyfreind got to go today, and of course the day they decide to tag one.. If it only stayed treed, and didn't hurt dogs. This year the bears have been either runners or bayers. Lot different than normal.

I'm back to getting Thursday and Sunday's off. Thursday's I go alone cause I don't have anyone to go with. So maybe we could go one of these days. If you know of any spots in between. Cause I'm broke, I can't travel real far. I just go across the street from my house.

Ol Brady went with us the other weekend. I think he had some fun.

well I hear ya on the broke part, I'm gonna hunt greenville here in the next few weeks, then I'm goin up to hunt the big bear hunt up in Jones with my father-in-law, but until the rain starts fallin, I'm workin 7-12's startin tomarrow, so I hope for a few weeks of that but I will be happy to see the rain LOL. But that should give my dogs time to heel up and recupe, your righ about the bear this year, the run or fight, not a whole lot of treein goin on. I have only caught a few, the rest have just ran and kept on runnin, a few have just faught from jump to end.

Gosh, this month has been killer on bills. Everything was due this month, plus a birthday. Getting paid every 2 weeks sucks. I just wish my dogs were as broke as I am... Had the best sounding race of the season Sun morn on a heard of 3deer. LOL. Twice we've let go without seeing a track, and BOTH times were a deer. LOL. That's what you get when your lead dog is 23 months old though. A good ol fashion butt whompin' has been in order, and it worked out perfect.

After that though cut an old cold track from sometime the night before and trailed it until about 2m, until it faded out on the sunny side of a clearcut hill. Nothing to show for it, but I guess it's good to learn some patience.

I've been going to go hunt with a few other people, but getting the time off to go somewhere, and then having the money to do it, makes it just about impossible.

Gee, I wish I made more than $15,000 a year. Let alone in 3 months. But no matter what I made, I'd still be broke too.
