ukc versus akc

Post by Liv2Hunt »

I just sent in my puppy papers on my blue before he hits 1yr. I made a comment to a co-worker aboutit and he asked if my pup was AKC or UKC. I stated the parents are both "pr" UKC reg. His comment was too bad they were not AKC instead. He claims AKC is the best becuase it is more recognized. I realize paper does not put cats in a tree but I did a search on here for ukc and also akc and it pulled up 4 ukc pages versus 1 akc page. If akc is the best why is it majority on here appear to be ukc? I know curiousity killed the cat and so do dogs but i just thought Iwould ask.

I am quite happy with my pup and would not change. When I look for another pup in the future with the possiblity of a breeding (if they both prove to be worth a damn) should I be looking for another ukc or would akc matter?

Whats your thoughts, knowledge and/or opinions?

Thanks and take care

I think UKC has more to offer for hounds.
I don't think the AKC even reconizes some hound breeds.

If a hound does not have the correct UKC papers you have nothing but a dog that has a set of papers. AKC seen the posibility just a few short years back to get in on the nite hunt money and started registering hounds that had UKC registration... what does that tell you?
UKC started registering hounds in 1906....Black and Tans and Redbones the English coon and foxhound shortly after that.. in 1946 the Bluetick and Walkers and Plotts were recognized by UKC.
Yes AKC registered Black and Tans a long time back, but go and buy an AKC B&T and try to hunt it..... then answer that question.
Do not give up your UKC Registeration for any reason.

tell your coworker the AKC is best for ruining the working qualities of a breed. that's why the border collie, catahoula & jack russell terrier clubs resisted AKC recognition. in any field of canine endeavor that could be considered a real job like hunting, herding, personal protection, military, law enforcement even sled racing and greyhound racing, no where are AKC dogs dominant or even seriously considered by those who need serious working dogs.

Hey Driftwood, put that post in the one up above about stereotypes. You just gotta know who's who out there. I like my AKC black dogs better than any of the UKC dogs I had before. They have a better temperament than the others and run just as good, will take a colder track than the others and I spend very little time looking for lost dogs now compared to before. If that's bad, then I'll take the junkers anytime.
