New HomeDepot Dog Box

Post by Moonshiner »

Just finished building my first dog box, and I think it went very well considering I dont have all the neccessary woodworking tools.
I did however run into a problem and I though 'd ask yall first.
My dog box is 64" L, 48" W, 28" H, btw.

I have air to the dogs coming in from the front of the dog box now (Where they load up) I was wondering if I needed to have windows, I realize those are prefered but im lacking the proper tools to cut an 8" circle window, or even to cut into the side of my box accurately. I do have a 2" hole saw and I was thinking of doing a line of 4-6 2" holes right above the bed, idk though, never have had a dog box before and this is my first year with hounds.
So any help or schooling would be much appreciated.
Thanks
oh and a hunting buddy would be nice too, lol, Im going to have a rigging rack put up as soon as the bedliner drys on the bottom of the box.

You should really have several large windows that you can also close up when you need to. You have to be very careful when using an enclosed dog box because when you load up a couple of dogs when they are hot, they can get heat stroke very easily. Also, traveling in very cold temperatures can be hazardous to your dogs. So you need to be able to regulate how much cold or hot air can come into the box. Just cut a long square hole and have a piece on the outside that is in a track that you can open or close.

Use your 2" hole saw and attach trailer vents, that way you can shut them in the cold months and allow pleanty of air movement in the hot ones.

You can buy a 8 in. hole saw relatively cheap. But there a treat to use on plywood :D :D
