The hunt started on saturday night but ended on sunday.

We went to a close spot to try and catch a quick one. We unloaded the 6 hounds and collared them up. The dogs and my nephew and hunting buddy walked up ahead to cross the little dam. I went back after my tracking box. After following where they had gone I looked down at this black pipe coming out of the ground and there were coon tracks frozen to it. Did I mention it was a balmy 23 degrees? I called the dogs back. I won't turn down any runnable track. I put my best dogs nose into the track, like one would a cat track. He took the track, while not opening, he was moving it. All the dogs came back and they cold trailed it accross a sage brush flat to the river. Up the river 3 miles and into a rock ledge. Long story longer. We walked over a mountain only to get right above the dogs and not be able to reach them. Had to walk back and walk up the river. All and all the dogs were "treed" for 6 hours and even the pups made the whole race and stayed tree'd. It was a good night. It weighed 29.8 on a certified scale. The biggest coon I have ever killed.

Nice story. Always like to hear about hounds doing their job right. I've never seen a coon that big personally but it sure looks like a whopper! I like to to hear about dogs staying treed too. Mine will stay untill I get there or way up into the daylight.

you guys all hes trying to do is post a good coon hunt on here and hes proud of his dogs. why does everything have to start an argument? even if its just a coon thats good shows that the dogs arent just going to get bored of treeing or whatever and take off you know. just my opinion. but congrats on the good coon hunt neways. nice pics.
