Issues with new server

Post by FullCryHounds »

Buddy, When I go to this site, I just hit the "View new posts since last visit" and read any posts since my last visit. It doesn't seem to be working now. Or maybe there hasn't been any new posts since last night. But that would be a first.

Anytime you move a site from 1 server to another, there will be lost post and lost PM's.....Just no way to prevent it from happening. You just do it very quickly to minimize what is lost and hope everyone's DNS updates quickly.

Once Budy got access tot he server he called me. I moved everything over for him yesterday evening.

Buddy can see the site at home on his new server but see's the site on my server on his computer at work.

What happens is that DNS is not completely switched over for everyone...Some are seeing the site still on my server and most are seeing the site on Buddy's new server.

I talked with Buddy about 30 minutes ago and looked up the activity on my server and it is very little. What that means is some people are still seeing the site on my server until DNS updates through their ISP which can take up to 48 hours.

It's even possible to actually see the site on both servers for the next 48 hours as DNS fully updates. Of course, nobody knows which server they are actually see the site on so when they post, it's possible the post have been posted on my server and that is why there will be a few post and pm's lost.

I counted 6 post since last night from when you posted going back into last night when I use the post since last visit feature.

Dean,

One way you can tell that your on the "new" server is the Missing Dog ads show up.

I'm trying to figure out why, I had the exact same thing happen to me, Like drew mentioned I was looking at the "OLD" site..

I haven't figured out how to tell my Work computer to go to the New Site...

I'm hoping it happens quickly!
