Getting Ready for Hog Hunt in Florida

Post by Jamison559 »

Hey guys,
Just thought I would let you know I am getting ready to head down to Okeechobee with a couple of buddies from school for another hog hunt. I am really pumped for it. Hopefully I will have some pictures and video to post for you next monday.

I'm pretty excited. I have been a couple of times before and am definitely hooked. I just hope I have an opportunity to live in a place that hogs someday so I can get some hog dogs. I am really excited because I have two guys going with me that have not done any hunting at all, so this will be quite an experience for them. I will be sure to post pictures and hopefully get some video footage up as well.

We finally made it to Okeechobee. Very tired. We saw two hogs dead on the side of the road between the Turnpike and the town, so hopefully tomorrow morning we will jump on them. I will keep you posted.

We got 4 hogs and bayed a couple more. I should be able to get some photos and video up soon. We had a great time and great weather. Just wore out from all the driving.

Nothing of any great size. Mine was the biggest at probably 125-150. One of the dogs got tagged right on the snout by a snake, and its whole snout swelled up like nothing I have seen before. I am waiting for my buddy to get me his pictures, we used his camera. I also have footage of each person's hog, I will get that transferred over to the computer soon.

Okay guys sorry for the long wait for pictures, I just got them uploaded from my buddies camera tonight. Here are some pics. One of the pics is of the dogs baying a hog at the corner of a fence. The hog took off for that corner, and it had nowhere to go. That is the hog I took. One of the other guys took one that got jumped out of some swampy stuff and the dogs took off after it and eventually caught it next to a cattle watering hole. Another hog was taken in some palmettos where the dogs bayed it up and then the fourth hog was bayed up just outside of a hammock. In all we had a great time. Two of the guys on the trip had never taken anything, so their first kill was with a knife, what a rush for them. Hope you all enjoy the pics.

We hunted with Rock Hill Hunting Preserve, Todd Pearce is the owner. Great guy, I have hunted with him 4 times now and they just treat you great. Todd usually brings along his two young boys and we have a lot of fun. He said he has been operating his place for about 5 years now. If anyone needs their contact number let me know and I will PM it to you. I would highly recommend them if anyone is looking to do a hog hunt.

By the way Bob, do you hog hunt around Shelbyville, KY? I am going to be moving to the Cincinnati area this summer and am looking to buy a house maybe around Walton, KY or in the area.

Jamison: No wild hogs in the shelbyville area. We are between Louisville and Lexington. Southern Ky eastern half along the Tenn line there is a decent population of wild hogs .i am not sure but I think Ky treats them as Varmits
While living in Fla for 10 years we went on many hog hunts , some on preserves some on WMU's mostly spot and stalk a few times with hounds. Sometimes the big ones can be tuff to put down.My largest dressed at 360 lbs co-incedently which is the same as the largest bear I have harvested.
In Shelbyville Myself and 3 of my UPS drivers have exclusive hunting rights to a 1500 acre farm owned by an elderly lady . I stoppedto help her one day when her car broke down. Ended up giving her a ride home ,got to talking about hunting , She was trying to find someone to paint her house . talked to my drivers ,We went over there on a Saturday talked to her ,volunteered to paint the house for free in exchange for the hunting permission been doing it for past 8 years . Deer ,turkey , coyote. You never know when an act of kindness will be returned !!! I sure am going to miss it when I retire to MAINE.
If you do purchase a house in Ky be sure to check out and put in for the ELK lottery. I have not been drawn yet BUT I have also been putting in for MOOSE Lottery in Maine for Past 24 years and not been drawn for that yet either .With my luck and all my bonus points If the time comes I will probably end up with a cow moose tag HA!!!
Good luck with your move .
Happy Hunting
