Oregon Cat Season Opens!!!!!!

The season started off good here in Oregon.

We got some moisture on the ground, and the dogs struck this smaller Tom Cat this morning. After a few hours of trailing, the dogs finally got the cat jumped. Two ridges over where the strike came, I found the dogs and my young pup bayed in the rocks about 6 hours after I turned out.

I finally was able to get a close range shot on my hands and knees down in the hole.

I took some photos and tried making a video of what I saw when I finally found the dogs. Cat got a little chewed and wet from running through the brush and crossing several creeks to the large rock pile, but he was maybe 14-16 lbs. Hope it gets the blood flowing in you fellow bobtail hunters.

can any one tell me if there is a dead line on the fur barriers permit i heard you can buy it any time during the year

I think you can buy it anytime, but only one eastern bobcat card.

Have to send the application to Salem, can't just go to Wal-Mart and buy it.

well good i live in washington and just have not had the money for it yet but will in a week or so your onley allowed 7 in eastern and like 15 in western on a punch card i think not sure nice pics really got me going ready to let the dogs run onley been running coon over here love it but would rather run a cat

Congrats! We'll have to get together and go hunting again. Don and I took the hounds out and got bluffed out by a bob and treed a long tail last Saturday....haven't been out since the season opened...

Are those walkers dog you bred yourself or are they out of someone elses stock? I have some walker dogs out of Steve Martin in Bend that sure look similar as those two. Liked the movie, fun to hear dogs going at it, good catch.

I live in Utah but grew up in wa. I lived in winlock for a couple years. Not a bad place to live but theres no jobs, no hunting and to much rain.

If you guys don't have snow on the ground how do you locate bobs to run? Do you free cast or is there some method that you use to find tracks? Thanks!!

Most people in the northwest rig cats. And coons for that matter.

BearKiller is right on.

We rig them off the box. The rig dogs are finished and straight and dailed into what they are supposed to strike. My dogs will strike coon and cat period. Alot of guys in Oregon consider coon trash, and break their strike dogs off coon. I enjoy hunting coon, so I allow mine to rig coons.
We drive and wait for the dogs to strike.

Huntress and URE, up above, have dogs that are only allowed to hunt cats. And their dogs will only rig cat.

Now, if you ask guys from the southwest, they will tell you the dogs up here are not true dry ground strike dogs. We are fortunate that we have favorable conditions for rigging without snow. It's true, are conditions are favorable for rigging off the box when compared to the dry southwest. Lots of moisture and cool temperatures up here.

To me, its all good, I don't care if the guys from the southwest don't think are dogs are true dry ground dogs. As long as we catch them, its all good, because we cant run bear or cougar.
