Wolves got Nick on Saturday

Post by chilcotin hillbilly »

ImageNIck treed her own bear at 10 months and finished her first cougar race at 7 months. Saturday the wolves got her. I spent yesterday looking for the collar and the remains but to many wolf tracks to be successful. Good dog , good family pet. She will be missed.

sorry to hear about the loss of your dog this is one way I hope to never loose one. I was wondering how it happened was the dog on the trail of a cat, at a tree and wolves came in or the just crossed in to each other. If no remains is there any hope that she got away.

WOLVES

Post by mike martell »

DOUG, SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR DOG. I DON'T SEE ANY WAY AROUND IT. YOU EITHER HUNT WITH WOLVES OR QUIT. I'M NOT SURE YOU CAN AVOID THEM REGARDLESS OF WERE YOU HUNT IN YOUR NECK OF THE WOODS. THAT DON'T MAKE IT ANY BETTER. AS I REMEMBER RUNNIMG A LION BACK IN SKINNER MEADOW AND CROSSING WOLF TRACKS. IF THAT IS NOT BAD ENOUGH BUT WHEN YOU COME OUT HAVING THEM ON TOP OF YOUR TRACKS WILL UNNERVE YOU. HOW ARE YOU SET FOR DOGS TO FINISH OFF YOUR SEASON? I HAVE A DOG THAT HUNTS CLOSE AND WILL TREE HER OWN LION. I CAN HELP YOU OUT IF YOU COULD USE HER? LET ME KNOW. I WOULD GIVE HER TO YOU. I JUST LET BARRY BRANDO DOWN IN GRAND FORKS B.C.OF GRANBY GUIDES HAVE HER SISTER TO CAT HUNT WITH AS AFTER WOLVES KILLED A COUPLE OF HIS, HE WAS SHORT ON DOGS TO RUN HIS CLIENTS WITH. THIS FEMALE WILL ALSO BAY A BEAR AS GOOD AS ANY DOG YOU HUNT. SHE IS 2 1/2 AND A BROKE SOLID DOG EXCEPT ON MOOOOOOSE! AS SHE HAS NEVER SEEN ONE. LET ME KNOW. I MIGHT EVEN DRIVE UP AND HUNT WITH YOU FOR A WEEK OR SO. MIKE

Sorry to hear about your loss. Any way a person losses their good hound is bad but by wolves would be pretty ugly. Hope the rest of the season goes well for you. Good luck. Where abouts did this happen if you don't mind sharing this information.

Real shame to hear ya lost one to the wolves, I live and hunt in the heart of the highest density of wolves in the lower 48 and I'm hoping my luck holds out.
I think our forefathers had it rite when they tried to exterminate these worthless things.

Tough way to lose a dog. Makes your blood boil to see what a pack of wolves can do to a single hound. The best lion and bobcat hound I have ever been around was killed by wolves a few years back here in Wyoming. Still miss ol Charlie, but am glad that Scarlett and Ozzy are still alive to carry on his legacy. Like I said it is a tough way to lose a dog. So sorry for your loss. :(

We were on a 10 hour old tom track with about 1 inch of blown snow in the track. Both hounds are young the black and tan being 2 years and Nick was 1 1/2 . There was no wolf sign at all around the cat track. About 2 miles into it the hounds were not far ahead as Rudy was drifting the track and Nick was hard on it but working it slow. I don't know what happened but as I crested a hill I heard Nick open up off to my right about 200 yards away and Rudy went in at a run to help out. Both Nick and Rudy will leave a track if they wind the target animal. I presumed this was the case and did not call them back. With Darkness coming quick and loosing track of the dogs I headed for the truck. I called them off which usually means they show up at the nearest road. there was no sign of either dog all night. Early the next morning Rudy showed up, sore and with 1 small hole in his hip. After looking all day Sunday All I could find were wolf tracks everywhere. I think the wolves lured her off the track. I should have known something was up because both dogs shut up quite quickly, I think they realized they were the hunted. I would like to get my hands on some 1080 and settle the score

We are sorry for your loss. We lost a dog last year and it took 3 days to find the tracking collar they ripped off her and only a piece of the shock collar & lots of blood. Our thoughts our with you and your family.. Just curious though...1080 is what? Better Luck to you in the future.
