lots of of cats, to cold.
Man its cold. and this time of year there is lots to do. Full time job keeping the water running. Walked a young tom track for a ways yesterday morning across the street form my place. to cold to turn out. When to help a friend move yesterday and a big tom crossed the road just before his place. Get home last night and a rancher called to say he found a very large tom track a few miles from my place but its heading my way. This cold snap is supposed to last till after Christmas. How cold is to cold? its been about -20 F ish the last 3 days. the hounds really feel it in their feet.

cold
well that is a little cold because the old timer i hunt with has told me he dosent like to hunt when its that cold up in montana because u can freeze the dogs lung and hurt or kill them. i gess it comes down to u what u want to do and if u can sand to be out in that cold air for that long. u have to figure your dogs r going to be running in it so they will be breathing harder then being in there dog house.
-20 with high's -5 or 10 below is to cold to run if you care about your dog's. But here in MT a lot of our quota districts have closed this week during this cold spell. That show that many houndman's ego's are bigger then they brains. I's all about killing as many cat's as possible with no concern for there dog's so they can beat there chest and tell any one who will listen how great they are

This is the coldest week I overall I can remember hunting. I recall catching many cats at -5 to -10 and one at -17, but we have been -22 or colder most mornings at the cabin. We caught six lions and only two bobcats since last Saturday. Cold trailing conditions on bobcats aint too bad but once jumped the little bastards seem to have more in the tank than the dogs. They seem extra slippery this year. The dogs are not in very good shape yet and it shows. I ran one 9.58 miles only to have my dog say enough is enough after it ran the road under joy sledders tracks. We are going to give them a break til after christmas. even the ones we caught were three or four hour races. Once the dogs heal and it warms up a bit things should get better.
Hey guys...
I live in NC and it just got a little cold here...in the teens so not quite as painful as what you are going through. I am glad to see you guys think of your dogs first in that cold weather. Makes me question some of the heroics I have read in some of these hound hunting books-falling in rivers in freezing temps and still hunting all day in wet clothes? Whatever! I have a question...how do you guys heat your homes? At those temps does the heater ever go off?
Take care and Merry Christmas.
Tim
